Slowing down to appreciate patterns halfway across the world; I became enamored with the mountains that backdropped our stay in the Western Cape. As if a giant had taken them between their fingers and gently smushed the layering terrain into a fingerprint-like pattern. I had intentionally left my watercolors back at home so I would catch up on my trove of collaging keepsakes during the trip. I ended up using coffee with a spoon to get the watercolor effect, one of two colored pencils, a brown brush marker, and, best of all, a patterned tissue paper that once wrapped a bottle of local wine.
The limitation of using what I had at hand, ended up being an inspiring limitation. A good lil reminder to shake things up once in a while.
Thank you @fiowrx for making my thoughts more cohesive

I had intentionally left my watercolors back at home so I would catch up on my trove of collaging keepsakes during the trip. This left me with little to aid the abrupt necessity to create the perfect card once I came to the conclusion that nothing was quite perfect enough for the recipient in any of the local shops.
I ended up using coffee with a spoon to get the watercolor effect, one of two colored pencils, a brown brush marker, and, best of all, a patterned tissue paper that once wrapped a bottle of local wine.
The card came to be just want I wanted— an expression of those mountains. I was eager to depict them using what I had at hand, which ended up being an inspiring limitation. A good lil reminder to shake things up once in a while.
Now, four months later, the card has been received and I get to share it!

Meet the girls of the Bamboo House🌀
We’re six best friends who met at the Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in textiles, film, advertising, industrial design, and graphic design. Ten years later we live in NYC, Copenhagen and Breckenridge, working in our respective fields.
This past summer @hana_hart and I were visiting @la____el at her artist residency in the South of France, helping her work on a piece for design Miami. We missed living and working together like when we were in college and knew we had to create something together ASAP. I had the perfect project.
My grandfather Paul McGregor was my creative muse throughout my childhood and encouraged me to pursue a path in the arts. His Fire Island home was where his creativity thrived, whether he was covering the exterior in bamboo or carving sculptures from driftwood found on the beach. Since his passing in 2013, the house has evolved into an Airbnb and slowly the creative energy has begun to fade away.
We put a pitch together convincing my family to let us move in and transform the house, bringing his artistic flair back into the space. Spoiler: They said yes. Our motto here is “The house is the canvas.” We’ve been having so much fun creating, collaborating and bringing you all along for the ride. Aside from finding dining room chairs, our biggest challenge yet was agreeing on a group photo. My grandpa always said “Follow your bliss” so follow we shall.
