The Family Tree "It has been about a month since production for The Family Tree ended, and I've realized we never got to give a proper introduction to one of the main characters, the Bonsai Tree. Also known as Bonnie. A bonsai tree itself represents so much - healing, patience, balance, beauty, and spirituality. But nature can also be mysterious, haunting, and mischievous. In the context of the film, Bonnie has been passed down through generations as a symbol of hope and good fortune. Lola passes it down to his son-in-law, Shelton, in hopes he finds tradition and faith. Just like Lola passes on tradition, I hope to continue to tell more stories through film. Honest, intimate and personal that hold value to pass along through time and @thefamilytreeshortfilm is just the first to be introduced." - Ced Photographed by @emiliomigueldiaz

This film has taken many different shapes and forms within the past 5 years. What started as an ode to my Tita turned into a tribute to my cousin Stas, who passed away late 2023 due to brain cancer. In many ways, this film reflects my personal life and at times I felt like I was writing things into existence. This thought scared me and stalled me from going further within the filmmaking process for a while, as at the same time I was grieving multiple family members. Originally this film was supposed to be a horror film, but I've decided to tell the stories of hope instead. "The Family Tree" was my not only my way of grieving, but also a way to explore different layers of the Filipino-American experience fixating on cultural differences and religion. I hope this film helps others with their grieving process and gives them a sense of hope. Mahal kita. Please share/donate/repost/however you can help to help me make this film. Thank y'all so much.
