My on-going project, Sono, is a portrait series following people who have had top surgery, a gender-affirming operation that modifies or removes the breasts.
After questioning my own gender identity for many years and starting this project, I began to understand how surgery is just one moment in a much longer conversation with the body and identity.
At a moment when trans and non-binary people face threats to their fundamental right to choose, these images offer space for that complexity to exist and be celebrated.
