When I started the @allsmithproject it was a way to go on a listening tour after losing my father to terminal brain cancer. He was supposed to live 4 months. He ended up living 12. I learned that people need 3 things: something to do, someone or something to love, and something to look forward to. We both looked forward to these chats and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I would coach and train until late at night in San Diego and then I would go up to see him. When he was awake, we would chat for hours. About life, basketball, real estate, business, relationships, challenges, emotions, religion, politics, adventures, working out, and what seemed like magic. Before I knew it, I would abuse caffeine and drive back to San Diego to coach and train for the 2018 @crossfitgames He would sleep much of the day and then embark on his treatments while spending time with my mom, loved ones, and siblings. I told him about my vision for a podcast. He loved the idea and supported that I take the leap and go for it 🎙️ - He shared with me a concept titled “always be dating!” It wasn’t about always dating but rather about giving time and energy to connect with friends, family, and open the door with new friends and possibilities. It was about watering and tenderizing the soil to maintain positive relationships. I have always thought that was cool. He shared how valuable memories and friendships were at the end of his life. - This last week, I was able to reconnect with my good friend @larry.light who was my high school point guard. He was a McDonald’s All-American and NBA point guard. We had an incredible chat and ran down memory lane while exploring all the cool things he is up to now. This was special. My dad always loved Larry, my friends, and teammates. This journey allows me to feel close to him and share some special conversations that hopefully positively impact your lives. - That’s all from me for now. Earlier this year, I had the honor of meeting David at DunkMS, a charity event my friend Blake Arnet founded to raise funds and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, in partnership with UCLA Health. During a Q&A with doctors from UCLA’s MS Achievement Center, David — who’s confined to a wheelchair — asked, “What hope do people like myself and others have? Are there any new therapies or diets that can help?”, but the panel couldn’t offer an answer. After the session, I introduced myself and invited David to try a Solodome session. Ten minutes later, he opened his eyes, smiled, and said, “Can we put wheels on this thing??” That’s when I realized that Solodome, at its core, was delivering what David — and so many others — are searching for: Hope. While we don’t yet have all the answers about the full potential of Solodome’s vibroacoustic technology, we know this — your support can help us with our research. Together, we can explore how this innovation may improve lives and make it accessible to those who need it most. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still pop out every now and then!! It’s all about balance 😂 But as I get older I find myself craving more events that leave me feeling mentally, spiritually and physically fulfilled. I love that I’m finding the wellness community in LA, but I think it’s time to start building my own. What ya’ll think?
