Friday is our first 16th Street green infrastructure garden volunteer day! We will be doing some pruning and other maintenance as we enter into the spring season
Help us ensure these gardens are beautiful assets to the 16th Street corridor — and effective at stormwater mitigation! Meet us at 10:00 am at 16th & Hamlin
Playing with dried flowers has been getting me through the winter.
I may not have a flower farm this season. Being a farmer in the city feels so ephemeral.
Thankfully I’ll be growing veggies at El Paseo Community Garden again 🌱
This morning at El Paseo Community Garden. It’s really lovely to see how the prairie strip along the garden’s main path supports wildlife in every season. I observed the birds eating from the seed heads of native plants and hanging out in this aronia bush. Only a few months ago the same strip was teeming with bees, butterflies, spiders and more.
This little interaction made my whole day.
Meet Lucía León from @lightly_farmed a Filipino and Mexican farmer bringing agriculture and harvest back into our communities. Her work reminds us of the roots we share through land, tradition, and care. We’re honored to partner with her this year to source our cempasúchil locally and continue uplifting the hands that grow our blooms. 🍂
Cempasúchil is back in stock on our website!
Last flower hour U-Picks of the season 🏵️

Connecting with the land/nature/plants redeems and replenishes me daily. It’s heavy out here. Spend time in the garden.

El Paseo Community Garden’s community market is done for the season but our U-Pick farm stand is still going through October!
We’re closed this coming Sunday October 12 due to the marathon but join us on October 19 and 26 for the last of the season’s produce.
We’ll still have greens, tomatillo, green peppers, honey, quail eggs, and flowers + Cempasuchil (giant marigolds) for your Day of the Dead altars.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
TREE WALK FT LUCÍA LEÓN / 10AM - 11:30AM
COMMUNITY DAY @ OVERTON / 2PM - 5PM
Another double header of free community events coming at you this Saturday!
First up, join us for Lucía León’s last garden workshop of 2025. In collaboration with the @mortonarb ‘s Chicago Region Trees Initiative, we’ll take a Tree Walk around the Overton campus to identify tree species and find some good spots for future tree plantings.
Then, stick around for another family-friendly Community Day! As usual, we’ll have refreshments, activities for all ages, a live DJ set, and good vibes all around.

Flower availability: The season is winding down for me so this will be the last week for zinnias. The dahlias are still kicking. The celosia is sending out new flowering branches but not many to pick this week. I have marigolds galore. We can make garlands if you’re into it. My later planting of marigolds is growing up, hoping they flower in time for día de los muertos 🏵️
