It's taken some time to process this last trip to the desert. Some of you know that we had a scary medical situation involving a high wind dust storm, my head, and a piece of shade structure. But I'm OK and this post is not about that.
This post is about how much I love this place and this community. Yes, there are definitely annoying and hard parts about it. But the highs are so high.
Skies for days, sunsets and sunrises that make you stop in your tracks, and art that will surprise and delight you.
We left early this year because I had to go to work. And I wish more than anything that I could have stayed.

Sometimes you go hang out in a Valley with a group of the best humans you know - congratulating passersby on their achievements and general participation, cawing well into the night, and having such a good time that photos just wouldn't capture it.
So you don't take many.
SOAK 2025 wrapped up a week ago.
I miss our murder of crows from the top of the hill.
And I can't wait to do it again next year.

It's the moment the day after an opening when I realize that I took no photos for public consumption while putting a show together (as usual).
But this group of humans was an absolute pleasure to spend a couple weeks in Milburn, New Jersey with.

Went on a whirlwind adventure Friday and today.
Getting the opportunity to walk into a long running Broadway house and play "make it pretty" is not something I had on my bucket list.
But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
I guess now that I've used their plot, I should finally go see Wicked.

In 2007, my roommate Keith was determined to get me a pet - a fish or a lizard - to keep me company after he graduated in December. This idea eventually led us to a local animal shelter.
I had no intentions of actually -getting- a cat. But we'd decided if it were to happen, it must be black.
The moment that a spunky shorthair jumped on my legs and looked me in the eye, my life changed.
Penny Lane came into our apartment days later - the first of many places we would live.
In the next 17+ years, we travelled to 9 states.
Work and vacations led to regular periods of time apart.
We had an agreement - I would always come back. And she would never resent me.
She became my constant, my touchstone for "home" in a chaotic life.
Last Sunday, we parted ways for the last time.
Her final moments were in my arms, in our apartment with @tikstersharp , wrapped in her favorite blanket.
It was the most difficult goodbye of my life thus far.
Goodnight, Tiny Panther.
You were the best crazy choice I ever made.
We taught Penny a while ago to get treats out of the bag herself by using her paw.
She has recently decided that the prescription kibble the vet gave us to try was her new favorite thing.
So we let her get her own today when it was freshly opened.
What could go wrong?

Dumped out of my storage unit in Brooklyn this morning.
All my worldly belongings (or like 98%) are now in one place, in an apartment in Harlem, where I will resume paying rent.

Seriously - there's not enough time here to eat all the things I want.
One of our Aussie counterparts found an amazing donut shop early on and I will not discuss how many times we then went there.
We discovered a massive counter serve food court in the nearby train station about halfway thru our time and I went back multiple times for quick sushi in the form of boxed sets, small single rolls (the perfect size really), onigiri (triangle of rice with fillings), and some really amazing tempura (which honestly I will probably miss the most).
Also - the 7 Eleven prepared food section is the real deal. I'd heard about it from more than one person, and if I were doing more wandering about, this would actually be the way to go.
I can't believe I have to leave already.
These food memories will be tugging at my brain (read: stomach) for a while.
