Smashing success for the reading of Hooker Raft at @bkcentertheatreresearch Thank you to everybody who came out to see it, the CTR regulars who pitched in last minute to make the night run smoothly, and most of all to the incredible cast for your time and talent! More to come!
Come to the staged reading of my new full length play! April 8th @bkcentertheatreresearch TIX IN BIO! After a cartel massacre explodes a luxury yacht off the coast of Havana, four sex workers survive by clinging to a piece of wreckage in the open sea. As hunger, thirst, and paranoia set in, old identities fracture and buried pasts surface—turning the raft into a pressure cooker of class resentment, sisterhood, guilt, and survival. When a gun and a mysterious black box threaten to tear them apart, the women must decide whether they’ll save each other or sacrifice one another. Hooker Raft is a darkly comic survival drama about capitalism, personal agency, and what remains when illusion sinks beneath the surface. Still soaring from the week spent mounting God Is In Your Typewriter with @breadartscollective . Thank you to our NYC home @thecloudcity for rolling out the red carpet as always! I feel so grateful for this weird, sometimes hard life of indie theater that I have made with these wonderful people over the last 15 years. When I was a young, egomaniacal artist, I dreamt of making plays that would cause riots and spark massive social upheaval. (Che Guevara with a MacBook, ha!) In this time of deep unrest, in this week where a city that so many friends and family call home is under assault, I ease my helplessness with the quiet, soft power of making art, of getting together with a community of people I love and making something new that wasn’t there before. This alone will not change the world of course, but it will strengthen and nourish us as we dig in for the fight. To invoke 12 year old Ben on Christmas morning, bouncing around the room to his new double CD of a hot new Broadway musical, “The opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation…VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!”
