We wrapped up our last Godly Play of the school year this week. PreK-4 and Kinder students have Godly Play once a week at St. David’s where they enjoy child-centered, hands-on lessons that teach the Bible, church year, and saints. The aim is to tap into the imagination and the religious potential of each child. The lessons are taught as stories, illustrated with hands-on materials, which are followed by “I wonder” questions, then by time for students to creatively respond.

The Bishop Jones Center welcomed George Peña from St. David's, San Antonio as part of his "Be Father Brian for a Day". The opportunity was auctioned off at St. David's Spring Fling in April. As a part of his daily duties, George and Father Brian took a meeting the the Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read, D.D. Bishop of West Texas. He also met the Rt. Rev. Angela Cortiñas, Bishop Suffragan of West Texas, ohter diocesan staff, and toured the offices.
Reading the Bible together, even when we’re doing it on our own time, is one of the ways God shapes us as a church. When we’re all spending time in the same Scripture, we’re grounded in a shared story and a shared way of listening for God’s voice. It gives us common language, shared reflections, and a deeper sense that we’re walking this journey of faith together.
Over the coming weeks, we will be reading through Philippians, with a portion assigned each week. You can read it when it fits your schedule, at your own pace. Even so, we will be learning and growing alongside one another as we listen to what God is saying through this letter about joy, humility, and life in Christ. Our hope is that this shared practice draws us closer to God and to each other as a church.
