We're Libro.fm, the audiobook company that shares profits with independent bookshops across the globe (4,000 and counting). Every time you make a purchase from us, you support your indie bookshop and your local economy. Take a look ➡️ to learn more about what sets us apart from Amazon-owned Audible, including: 💗 We are an employee-owned Certified B Corp and Social Purpose Corporation 📖 We're DRM-free, meaning you own your audiobooks 🤖 We are bookseller driven, not algorithm driven, and we value real people, not robots When you start a new monthly membership with code SWITCH, you'll get three audiobooks for the price of one. Head to the link in bio! 🔗 __ #BookLovers #ShopSmall #IndieBookstore #BookstoreLove #Bookstores #IndependentBookstore #Bookshop | Independent bookstore | bookstore | small business | shop small [ID: Six slides with a teal background. Every purchase supports the independent bookshop of your choice. When you start a monthly membership, buy audiobook credits, or grab audiobooks à la carte on Libro.fm, every purchase goes toward the store of your choice. We are a Certified B Corporation and a Social Purpose Corporation. We pursue both social and financial goals in the for-profit context, even if those social goals may at times conflict with our financial interests. We meet high standards of social and environmental performance and release an annual report outlining our efforts and progress. We are 100% employee-owned and a small business. We care about small businesses because we are a small business. DRM-free downloads–as in, you actually own your audiobooks. Download the files and listen to them wherever you want. You bought them, so you should own them. Your audiobook credits never expire. Can’t get to a new audiobook this month? Don’t worry about it! Your credits roll over, and even if you cancel or pause your membership, they are still available for you to use. We are real people, not bots.

No matter our budget or location, we can all play a role in supporting small businesses. Not only do we help them thrive, but we directly contribute to our local economy—meaning more jobs, more funding for important resources like health care and transportation, and a vibrant community. At Libro.fm, we hope to make shopping small and supporting independent bookshops more accessible, and we recognize that doing so in person is not always possible. When we can shop small, we can create huge change. Head to the link in bio to learn more about why shopping small is powerful 💓 __ [ID: Seven slides with a cream and teal color scheme. Across the slides, text reads: "Shopping small matters. Where we spend creates change. Support indie bookshops. Here's why and how to get started. Why shop small? 🔁 28% of all revenue at indies immediately recirculates in the local economy—versus less than 4% when you shop with Amazon. 🧡 Small businesses donate 250% more than large businesses to community causes. 💲Small businesses generate 70% more local economic activity per square foot than big retailers. 🛒 $9.3+ billion would be returned to the economy if every family spent $10/month at a local business. 🌏 Residents of neighborhoods with small businesses log 26% less in car mileage than those without. ❤️ We help create local jobs—and small businesses are linked to lower poverty levels. How to do so: 🛍️ Visit your independent bookshop in person. 🖥️ Don’t live near an indie? Order from them directly online. 🎧 Support them with your Libro.fm audiobook purchases. 🎁 Purchase a gift card—for yourself or loved ones!

We have to agree with Ann: There’s barely anything we care more about than independent bookstores 🤷🏼‍♀️ Whistler comes out in early June, and we’re following Ann as she takes us behind-the-scenes for her debut as a fiction narrator! You can support your indie bookstore with your audiobooks by grabbing a copy on Libro.fm. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and audiobooks can play a big role 💓 Swipe ➡️ to learn more about the proven benefits of reading on audio, and let us know how audiobooks play a role in your self care routine! __ [ID: Ten slides. Across them, text reads: "Let's talk about audiobooks and mental health. Because the benefits are real, y'all. They help reduce negative thinking: In an article for Psychology Today, Sarah Rayner writes: “For those who find it difficult to quiet their inner demons, listening to someone else read aloud can help by replacing negative thoughts with something else.” And they help mitigate stress: “In 2024, 1 in 2 children and young people said that listening to audio helped them feel better when they were stressed or anxious,” notes the National Literacy Trust. They benefit your brain: Because audiobooks can immerse you in a different world, they encourage imagination and critical thinking. “Of adults who listen to audiobooks...more than 7 in 10 felt that audiobooks helped keep their brain stimulated.” —National Literacy Trust. They relax your eyes: Especially given how much screen time we all have these days—between our phones, work, and beyond–taking a break to unplug is increasingly important! Audiobooks give our eyes a much-needed break, which can help minimize blurred vision, eye strain, and long-term vision problems. Plus, relaxed eyes leads to better sleep...and we all know how important sleep is!

Disclaimer: friends and therapy are both actually really important...and so are books 😉 __ [ID: Five slides showing bookstore interiors. Text on top reads: "Who needs a social life when you could stay home reading? Who needs sleep when you could stay awake with a book? Who needs workout classes when you could take an audiobook walk? Who needs friends when you have book characters? Who needs therapy when you have indie bookstores?"] #Bookish #BookLovers #AlwaysReading #ReadBooks

We’re kicking off AANHPI Heritage Month by highlighting a list of API-owned independent bookshops across the globe to support all year long 📚 We can show support for these bookshops by: 🏡 Visiting and shopping in person 💻 Shopping online 🎧 Supporting them with Libro.fm audiobooks 📱 Following and engaging with them on social media 📆 Attending their events, whether virtual or in person Head to the link in bio to see all these stores and find one near you! ❔A bit about how this list works: We pull from our partner map at libro.fm/indies (which is why it’s in alphabetical, not geographical order). All of this information is self-reported from our partners (how they identify, whether their store is physical, pop-up, online, etc., and whether they are still open or not). Bookselling partners! Send us a DM or email if you are missing from the lists, or if anything is incorrect 🙂 __ [ID: Six slides with an orange background. Across them are names and locations for API-owned bookstores.] #AANHPIHeritageMonth #IndieBookstores #Bookstores #BookstoreLove

Thank you, readers, for continuing to show up for your indie bookshops 💓 Your support goes a long, long way! __ [ID: Two slides with a teal background. Across them, text reads: "Your daily dose of bookish hope: Because of you, we had our biggest Independent Bookstore Day yet. And many bookshops did, too. 'Independent Bookstore Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a movement. Technology can be used to strengthen, rather than replace, the independent shops that are the heart of our culture.' — Mark Pearson, CEO and Co-founder of Libro.fm"] #BookstoreLove #AlwaysReading #ReadersOfInstagram

Don't say: "I get my audiobooks from a major corporation!" Say: "I get my audiobooks from a retailer that supports independent bookshops with every single purchase." 💓 __ [ID: Seven slides with a pink background. Across them are photos of indie bookstores and text that reads: "Hey, you! Stop using anti-book language. Don’t say: “I gotta hit the books.” Why not? I’m sorry—you want to hit books? No. This one is self-explanatory. Instead, say: “I gotta go study.” Literally, so easy. Don’t say: “That’s the oldest trick in the book.” Why not? Umm, have you read a book? Books are incredibly clever, thank you very much. Instead, say: “Your method of deception, while effective, is well known and by no means unique.” Don’t say: “I borrowed a page from your book.” Why not? No! Absolutely not! You can’t “borrow” a page from a book. Destruction! Instead, say: “I enjoy the example you have set, and will follow your lead.” Don’t say:“The judge will throw the book at him.” Why not? Why are we throwing books? What does this have to do with anything? Instead, say: “That judge punished him strongly. By the way, he was charged for throwing books.” Don’t say: “The company cooked the books.” Why not? Please leave books out of your financial misdeeds. They just want to be read. Instead, say: “Can you believe that the huge, major corporation falsified their records?” (Yes, yes we can. Indie bookshops would never.) Don’t say: “They’re a closed book.” Why not? It is not a book’s fault that a person doesn’t want to open up to you. Seems like some self-reflection might help. Instead, say: “I have yet to gain their trust. Maybe if I buy them books then they will open up to me.”] #BookLove #BookLovers #Bookstagram
