In March, the PC Archives & Special Collections welcomed more than 300 DWC 102 students to the Fogarty Reading Room over a two-day period to gain hands-on experience with the facsimiles and fragments from the ASC collections. Students and faculty members were introduced to the ASC, and they spent time learning about the history of our collections, early book making processes, and the creation of medieval texts: from the ingredients that made early ink to the labor that went into creating sheets of vellum. Students also learned about how the texts were used throughout history and why they were created. Dr. James Beaver, one of the faculty members who coordinated the class visit, emphasized the tangible benefits of coming to the archives: “Students really value the experience of seeing the manuscripts and facsimiles up close and in person, and it offers a nice material lesson different from the usual weekly seminar.” Read more about this experience at the link in our bio! #PC #PML #Library #Archives #DWC
