🌸🌸 Hi everyone, Happy almost summer! This season, we are excited to begin announcing some classes — “Sense to Sense” is an online writing and publishing class about translation and the senses. Over five weeks, participants will engage in readings and discussion about the five senses and explore what it means to carry sensations over into written form. How can a fragrance become a poem? What are the different ways to write an image, or to document a sound? Ursula Le Guin says all writing is a form of translation, from the perceptual into language. Renee Gladman notes, “Translation is amazing, because it presumes there is something that needs to be carried from one place to another. But where is that thing?” We’ll look toward the senses to expand our use of language, to break us out of writing ruts, and to strengthen our voices. By the end of class, we’ll collect and publish some of our writings into a printed publication. Since the class is online, we’ll experiment with the constraints of being in different locations to produce something physical that travels and unites us. This class is taught by Meg Miller & Laurel Schwulst and takes place virtually over Zoom for two consecutive days of the week (Sunday & Monday) for five weeks. *** This class meets virtually for ten sessions over the course of five weeks. Sessions happen on Sunday evenings (7-8pm EST) for reading discussion, and Monday evenings (7-9pm EST) for exercises, sharing work, and publication making. Specific dates: 7.5, 7.6, 7.12, 7.13, 7.19, 7.20, 7.26, 7.27, 8.2, 8.3. As maybe some of you know, we ran this class last summer in NYC, and it was so much fun. We are curious to explore it as an online version. We invite anyone interested to apply to Sense to Sense. Applications are due on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11:59pm EST. More info about Sense to Sense: https://ultralight.school/classes/sense-to-sense-summer2026 (Link in bio) Does that make sense? Please write us with any questions: [email protected]. 🌸🌸 Teachers: @meggmillerr , @roombaghost School: @library_of_light

Join us this Sunday for an afternoon of barbecuing and various other special events to celebrate the culmination of our seven-week class “TWA” or “Total Work of Art” this summer 2025! 🛫✨ Come at 1pm for barbecue and 2:15pm for the beginning of some important announcements. While the event is primarily a BBQ, there will also be special activations and landings 🛬✨ by participants Maddy Bruster, Ha Duong, Mary Jiang, Halim Lee, Siri Lee, Quinlan Maggio, Ritam Mehta, Jiamin Ren, Maria Surawska, and Goda Thangada. The class has been hosted at telos, which is also the site of this barbecue, where we’ll enjoy both outdoor roof and indoor space. Special thanks to all the participants for all their amazing work and telos for hosting! This class has been co-taught by Bryant Wells, Laurel Schwulst, and Stephen Kwok. (RSVP for the TWA BBQ by going to www.ultralight.school and clicking on the link at the top.) 🌍🌏🌎 More about the course: “TWA: Total Work of Art” https://ultralight.school/classes/twa In the 7 week class “TWA: Total Work of Art” (which has been running in June, July, and now August this summer) we invited participants to shapeshift a concept across three modalities: 1) digital, 2) physical, and 3) temporal. Inspired by wide-ranging examples of design as world-building — think Bauhaus, Beyoncé, Bernadette Corporation — this class responded to how culture is experienced today, inviting everyone to develop a core concept across these multiple points and moments of access. The class culminates in a public event (this barbecue) in which the participants present the totality of their work. See you there! 🌎🌍🌏

Our sensorial writing class, Sense to Sense, is excited to share its final publication! Join us to celebrate the publication that came out of our class. We’ll meet this Friday, August 1st from 7-9pm for the launch, with some light refreshments and readings around 8pm. Publications will be available for purchase at the event. (RSVP by going to www.ultralight.school and clicking on the link at the top.) *** In our class, we explored translation and the senses. For over the course of five weeks (for the five senses) in June and July, we read, discussed, and workshopped our own writings... We explored questions like: How can a fragrance become a poem? What are the different ways to write an image, or to document a sound? Or to convey pressure, pain, or touch? As Ursula K. Le Guin says, “all writing is translation” — from the perceptual into language. *** This publication came out of the class Sense to Sense in summer 2025, as part of the Ultralight School. The participants were: Ariana Gupta, Nat Hartman, Jess Joseph, Kara Kittel, Alicia Liu, Hannah Marshall, alphonse f, Tiffany, Miaoye Que, Kim Upstill, Jill Yum, and Hannah Zhang. The class was co-taught by Meg Miller and Laurel Schwulst. See, hear, and ... you there 🌸🌸 !

Hi everyone, We’re excited to invite you to join us on one, two, or all three walks in NYC — “Walking the Internet” is a series of group walks co-led by Alex Wolfe and Laurel Schwulst, exploring physical and cultural infrastructure in New York City. Together, we’ll explore how the internet isn’t some ethereal, untouchable thing, but a physical network — connected by underwater cables and powered by data centers filled with real computers around the world. At the same time, we’ll ask: how can meandering, drifting, and getting lost offline bring new life to our understanding of the internet — and how might the internet, in turn, shape how we move through the world? The series will take place over three consecutive Saturdays, each in a different part of Manhattan: 🔵 July 19 – Times Square 🟠 July 26 – Midtown 🟢 August 2 – FiDi To RSVP, go to www.ultralight.school and click on the links. More info and background on Walking the Internet: https://ultralight.school/classes/walking-the-internet/ *** Facilitated by: @pppedestrian , @roombaghost School: @library_of_light Thank you!

Hi everyone, We are opening up a virtual reading group as an offshoot from the “Sense to Sense” class! It’s taught by Meg Miller & Laurel Schwulst. To make best use of this class, we recommend registering at the latest by this Thursday, June 12, so you have enough time to read for Monday’s session. Hi everyone, We’re excited to launch our second class “Sense to Sense,” happening this summer — “Sense to Sense” is a publishing class about translation and the senses. Over five weeks, participants will engage in readings and discussion about the five senses and explore what it means to carry sensations over into written form. How can a fragrance become a poem? What are the different ways to write an image, or to document a sound? Ursula K. Le Guin says, “all writing is translation” — from the perceptual into language. Similarly, we’ll look toward the senses to expand our use of language and to strengthen our writing voices. By the end of class, we’ll collect and publish some of our experiments into a publication. This class is taught by Meg Miller and Laurel Schwulst and happens two consecutive days of the week (Sunday & Monday) for five weeks. We’ll meet: 1) Virtually on Sundays for one hour reading discussions, 2) In-person in Brooklyn, NY on Mondays for three hours of exercises, sharing work, and publication making. Note: This class is designed as in-person but email us [email protected] if you’re not in NYC. With enough demand we are open to a hybrid option 🍃 *** The class meets for ten sessions over the course of five weeks. Sessions happen on Sunday evenings (7-8pm) virtually for reading discussion, and Monday evenings (6-9pm) in-person (in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, NY), for exercises, sharing work, and publication making. Specific dates: 6.15, 6.16, 6.22, 6.23, 6.29, 6.30, 7.6, 7.7, 7.13, 7.14. We’re launching the class under “Ultralight School,” a new educational umbrella, beginning this summer. Hi everyone, We’re excited to launch our class “TWA,” happening this summer — In “TWA: Total Work of Art” we invite artists, designers, writers, programmers, and anyone else interested to shapeshift their concept across three modalities: 1) digital, 2) physical, and 3) temporal. Inspired by wide-ranging examples of design as world-building — think Bauhaus, Beyoncé, Bernadette Corporation — this class responds to how culture is experienced today, inviting participants to develop a core concept across multiple points and moments of access. This 7 week class is led by three teachers: Stephen Kwok, Laurel Schwulst, and Bryant Wells. Meeting twice a week (on Thursdays and Sundays) in Brooklyn, each session includes conversational lectures, technical demonstrations, presentation and critique time — plus some guest visits. The class culminates in a public event in which the participants present the totality of their work. Sessions happen on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings in part of June, all of July, and the very beginning of August at Telos in Brooklyn. Sessions include conversational lectures, technical demonstrations, presentation and critique time. Specific dates: 6.22 (Orientation), 6.26, 6.28, 7.3, 7.6, 7.10, 7.13, 7.17, 7.20, 7.24, 7.27, 7.31, 8.3 (Finale). Some events will also take place at nearby Amant Foundation. We’re launching the class under “Ultralight School,” a new educational umbrella, beginning this summer. It’s a natural continuation of Laurel’s previous “Fruitful School” (2020-24) with much of the same ethos but with a new summertime feeling 🍃✨ We invite anyone interested to apply to TWA. Applications are due 11:59pm EST on Friday, May 30, 2025. More info on TWA: https://ultralight.school/classes/twa/index.html More info on Ultralight School: https://ultralight.school (Links also in bios) Feel free to email us [email protected] if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you this summer!
