Slough Library, The Robert Taylor Library 1974. The library was opened on Thursday 28th November 1974. It is officially called the Robert Taylor Library, named after Alderman Taylor in recognition of his contribution to the library service. At the time it was renowned as a state of the art modern, Brutalist building with a welcoming large reception desk on the ground floor. Staff would date stamp books out and in latter years there was a large collection of VHS videos, music cassette then DVD’s. On the first floor, librarians would assist with reservations and book searches and the second floor had an extensive local history archive. Do you have fond memories of the old library?
