7L Reading Room with Louis Langrée Louis Langrée (@louislangree ), Director of the Opéra-Comique (@opera_comique ) in Paris, shared with the Friends of 7L and of the Opéra-Comique his intertwined vision of literature and music. He spoke to Laurence Delamare, Head of 7L, about the essential books that accompanied him until today, from Marceline Desbordes-Valmore to Vladimir Jankélévitch. The readings that usually punctuate the conversation were replaced by musical notes from key operas among which ‘Tristan and Isolde’ by RichardWagner, ‘Pelléas and Mélisande’ or ‘Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun’ by Claude Debussy. A joyful and poetic moment. 📸 @matzazzo #Librairie7L #SalondeLecture7L #LouisLangrée #operacomique

7L Correspondances, Dance “Small Bleu” by Katerina Andreou @katerina.s.andreou For the third edition of “Exquis”, choreographers were invited to respond in movements to the book “Respirer. La puissance créatrice du Souffle” by Maurice Fréchuret (published by Les presses du réel, 2024). After “Fracas x 7” by the duo François Chaignaud and Aymeric Hainaux, “France Musique” by Boris Charmatz, Katerina Andreou presented a new creation for this final chapter. “A dance that’s like diving into very cold water, a dance that suddenly springs into action and takes us by surprise. A dance that requires a deep breath before it begins. A dance that can literally take your breath away, even for few seconds. The starting point is this image, as physical as it is imaginery, as literal as it is metaphorical: the act of holding your breath. Take a deep breath, then ‘pause’. Until you exhale, during this suspended moment, there is a physical but also emotional intensity. It is the preparation for this exhalation, which comes with a necessity and a desire, that makes it powerful, strong and resonant, explosive, and cathartic even. The performance is based on this physiological principle that habits me - not as a mechanism, but as an image that reminds us of what it means to be alive, and that can express a kind of anger, but also resistance and resilience in this crazy and overwhelmed world.” said Katerina Andreou about her performance “Small Bleu” A programme in collaboration with Aymar Crosnier (Structuur) @aymarcrosnier ✨ #librairie7l #7LCorrespondances #Dance #KaterinaAndreou 📸 @marcdomage

7L Correspondances, Photography “Une cartographie de la guerre” by Paolo Pellegrin @paolopellegrin (Magnum Photos @magnumphotos ) in collaboration with Annalisa D’Angelo, Chiara Pellegrin and Bianca Ossicini By appointment only until July 4, 2026 Contact: [email protected] This installation is created as part of the 7L “Correspondances” programme, in which artists are invited to explore the collection of Karl Lagerfeld’s library and reinterpret it through their own perspective. “The library felt, from the very first threshold, like an initiatory space. You understand immediately that you have entered a private realm: the geography of an imagination. There is no definite order here, it is not you who finds the books – it is the books that find you.” Paolo Pellegrin Echoing the richness and diversity of the 7L library collection, Paolo Pellegrin moves through its shelves as one might traverse a territory. In the course of this exploration, he photographs the images that inhabit the books, from soldiers of the world wars to creatures drawn from medieval bestiaries. The images thus extracted from the pages of the 7L library are layered with his own photographs of contemporary conflict zones. This visual construction takes shape through his collaboration with the artist Chiara Pellegrin and the curator Annalisa D’Angelo. These fragments are reassembled into a new cartography, embodied in “Jeu des fortifications ou de la guerre”, an 1812 variant of the “Jeu de l’oie”, reproduced in the book “Cartes et figures de la terre”. The spaces on the board become meeting points between field and archive, uncharted territories where a representation of conflict takes form. The game appears as a miniature of reality, where each playing piece extends the player within a space that is at once symbolic and ritualized. Governed by chance, the journey becomes a mirror of existence itself, with its obstacles and setbacks not as an end, but as an invitation to begin again. 📸 @samuelkirszenbaum #Librairie7L #7LCorrespondances #PaoloPellegrin #MagnumPhotos

7L Music Room with Pierre-Yves Macé, In-Phono. In coproduction with Villa Médicis @villa_medici Drawing on the spirit of the space, artists are invited to transform the 7L library into a recording studio. Over a period of six months, musician and composer Pierre-Yves Macé regularly visited 7L, exploring the entire collection of 7L records while thinking about the creation of a unique musical score based on some excerpts from them. The result of this research was a series of two evenings split in two parts: the “off” where guests were invited to listen and play a selection of records that Pierre-Yves Macé particularly enjoyed and the “in”, a live recording session where he was joined by a pianist, a flutist and a cellist. Throughout the evening, Pierre-Yves Macé explained his research process and musical choices while orchestrating the live recording sessions. 7L Reading Room with Benoît Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli Guests of the latest 7L Reading Room, Benoît Astier de Villatte @benoitastierdevillatte and Ivan Pericoli @ivanpericoli shared with the Friends of 7L a literary vision of their life, from their childhood in Italy to the invention of their common project ‘Astier de Villatte’ @astierdevillatte . A creative and playful world inspired by the search of lost time through disappearing shapes and spaces, paintings memories and a love for savoir-faire. They invited artist Setsuko Klossowska de Rola to read Rilke’s foreword of ‘Mitsou’, a book republished by Astier de Villatte gathering drawings by the young Balthus. Benoît Astier de Villatte recalled his early years with his family at Villa Medicis where he met Setsuko for the first time, while Ivan Pericoli recollected their extraordinary discovery of Romain Gary’s ‘Promise of Dawn’. Actor Jean-Hugues Anglade also read an excerpt from ‘Discours à l’Académie suédoise’ by Patrick Modiano, an author they both love, and with whom they share a taste for the old guides of the city of Paris. 📸 @matzazzo #Librairie7L #Salondelecture7L #benoitastierdevillatte #ivanpericoli #astierdevillatte
