sound chatelaine i made with parts from my broken radio, a circuitry collab with @bhanano when i was assisting @aprilwoodmetalsmith at haystack last summer. it’s welded steel and it has the speaker and outer plastic from the radio i used to play with friends. the speaker was rewired to a headphone jack, and sandwiched between the plastic discs are nfc chips that link to sound files i’ve been collecting for a few years. i suppose they’re all fleeting moments that i wanted to have forever—swipe to hear clips
1) prayer that emits from a stuffed lamb I had as a child that i rediscovered in line at the grocery store
2) my nana jo talking about the jewelry she would pass down
3) an anonymous improvised sound performance i did once with @e.i.ssac when we tuned two radios (one being the one that broke) on a podium under a sheet
4) my late cat giving himself a nighttime bath with my bedroom window open
I recently taught a month-long teen jewelry workshop @fleisherart in tabsetting found objects! We learned, we sawed, we set, and we talked about value as we put objects into new wearable contexts. Many thanks to the folks at Fleisher Art Memorial 🫶
