“a short notice change to the timetable” 11 of around 22 10x8” gelatin silver prints from a series of photos taken on trains and around train stations trying to kill time from delays and cancellations. similar to my last post that featured some of the colour handprints, here are some of the black and white photos that i’m liking at the moment. i would say i’m mostly 70/30 when it comes to shooting colour and black and white (70% colour) so i’m finding it interesting mixing both together for the first time. still have a good amount to print from both mediums, but enjoying the slow pace of printing each photo individually in their respected processes instead of bulk scanning everything… something extra satisfying seeing a photo on paper for the first time compared to an iMac screen… even if its a blurry picture from the window of these high speed, sound barrier braking Northern Fail train wrecks i pay £33.70 a week to travel on…. #gelatinsilverprint #darkroomprint #fibreprint

some recent prints made throughout this winter. printed on expired 10x8” Kodak Ektacolor Supra Endura, hence the yellowish tinge (which isn’t as bad on most prints when viewed in person, i promise). all from a wip series titled: “a short notice change to the timetable” photos from waiting around train stations, mostly Manchester Piccadilly, for delayed or more commonly cancelled trains from over the last 2-3 years. i have approx 40ish colour and black and white 10x8” prints so far and counting (haven’t gotten around to sleeving the b&w prints yet so no pictures of them atm) some good, some definitely not good but it’s been fun printing them nonetheless! this is something i’m slowly working through and probably won’t do anything with until next year at the very least… more a side project to keep me from losing my shit while working on my Glossop sequence… all shot with a Plaubel Makina W67 and a Nikon f3, the daily carries. #kodakendura #ctypeprint #darkroomprint

i recently finished a year long project (Jan 27th 25’ - Jan 27th 26’) photographing around peel park and from the windows and roof of the new adelphi building at the university of salford. the whole project was shot entirely on 10x8 with colour negative film (with a few 5x4 colour negatives and polaroids thrown in there earlier before the project officially started). it was the first time using a 10x8 view camera and after a year of shooting it i’m still only just getting to grips with it! i managed to shoot a total of 48 sheets of film with only making 1 mistake and ruining 1 sheet of film! thats 47 sheets/photos total for a year long project, not bad a first attempt i’d say… 🤷🏻‍♂️ to be very honest i’m still not entirely sure what spawned the idea and what the project ‘actually’ is, i’ll be able to figure that out once i have everything printed. what i can say is one of my main focuses in around 90% of the shots is that it in someway shape or form features the strangeways ventilation tower and it appears within the different and alternate scenes throughout the year and through the changing of the seasons. thats all i have for now, that and something about observing the skyline development, but i’ll need to figure that part out properly once i see all 47 prints. i will be printing these in the very near future and i’m hoping i can figure out a showing of the project at some point too, including the 5x4 prelude experiment. but for now here are 20 some behind the scenes iphone pictures from over the year! #10x8film #8x10film #largeformat

a 16x12” print on Kodak Ektacolor Ultra iii paper from the early 90’s that i acquired summer just gone. despite the box being water damaged and having some mould growing on it… the actual paper prints pretty decent to near perfect (as far as i can see anyway) the box describes the paper as, high contrast gloss for commercial use. i probably could have chosen a less contrasty image to print to be honest instead of this one from the train window, but turned out rather well. i’ve 2 boxes of 50 sheets each of this particular paper to try and do something with, just need the right pictures. #kodakektacolorultra #darkroomprint #plaubelmakina

Glossop maquette no.1 a very much work in progress still. this one is approximately A5, 38 pages and contains 27 5x4” work prints blu-tacked inside. This is definitely not going to be the final size and i’ve really grown to dislike this forest green colour cover, so thats the first thing thats going. this maquette is only 38 pages and i only managed to blu-tac in about 1/4 of the current edit of roughly 70-75 images in. i’m going to need to make a second maquette, with a higher page count, in order to fit in the current sequence in to see how the book flows. my biggest headache at the moment is not pushing the image count over 80. i’ve 8 years worth of work and trying not to go overboard is proving difficult. but then again what is the ideal image count for a photobook? 🤷🏻‍♂️ 📖 📚 #photobook #glossop

I’ve been stocking up on colour paper since mid summer to prepare for the long winter nights when there’s less daylight hours for picture tacking. Bought a box of expired Kodak Ektacolor Supra Endura on eBay last year for around £30, 100 sheets and still factory sealed and still produced a lovely picture (slight yellow’ish tinge to it I’ll admit) but have since become obsessed! Almost as if it’s a warm-tone colour paper now… Spent most of the last few months buying whatever stock I can find, new and old to try and do something with it, with a few different ongoing projects. Few different sizes to explore with to which I’m excited about from 8x10”, 10x12”, 12x16” and 20x24”!! Shame they discontinued their RA4 papers… Also have a tonne of Fuji Crystal Archive paper for the same purposes, in all the same sizes for some specific projects i’ve on the go involving Christmas and Peel Park in Salford! Should all last me until the sun makes an appearance again… 😌

the back of some Kelvin Lord lorries parked at the back of truck yard, downtown Glossop from winter earlier this year. still taking photos of/around Glossop while i’m getting close to finishing editing the photos i have into a book is probably counter productive, but sometimes Glossop still produces a surprise every now and again and throws me off course! a dirt road somewhere in Charlesworth that connects to Gamesley. also, this is a rare ektachrome epp 100 plus transparency from the mid 90’s. i’ve had a bunch of it since around 2016 and its never really worked over the years i’ve attempted it when taking pictures for my Glossop work. i usually only take a roll out as a last resort if needed and this roll actually came fairly decent! 🤷🏻‍♂️ (which is the rarity in this case, not the film itself! you can find it all over eBay for stupid prices for some reason…) late summer, 2024. #ektachrome100plus #plaubelmakina670 #glossop

the back of Apex Self Storage along Etherow Way in Hadfield. This is an early summer version of this scene, i also have it throughout autumn, winter and spring. they can’t all be included in my Glossop book (which has atm hit brick wall editing wise) but this one is in a strong second place to the one i’ve currently got blu-tacked in my maquette.
