Save the Digital Equity Act! Protecting digital equity funding is about protecting the ability of real people to participate in modern life. Congress created this investment for a reason. It should be defended like it matters, because it does.
Privacy is not neutral when you’re LGBTQ+. For many in our communities (especially transgender and non-binary people) weak privacy protections can mean real risks to safety, health, and housing.
Today, LGBT Tech is releasing “Data Privacy Principles for Federal & State Policymakers: Building Meaningful Rights & Closing the Gaps.” This roadmap lays out 7 core principles for modern privacy laws, including: data minimization; stronger safeguards for sensitive health, location, biometric, sexual orientation, and gender identity data; usable privacy rights; guardrails on profiling and automated decisions; targeted youth protections; direct regulation of data brokers; and a federal privacy floor that does not wipe out stronger state protections.
We highlight where states are already leading and where both states and Congress must go further to protect #LGBTQ+ people and all consumers.
