The FRONT SKID PLATE for the 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner is one of the most critical pieces of underbody protection you can run. Rocks, ledges, washouts, and unexpected bottom-outs—this is the armor that takes it first so everything else doesn’t have to.

- Available in .185” steel or .25” aluminum construction
- Integrated oil filter access door for easy maintenance on the trail
- Countersunk hardware for a clean, snag-resistant finish
- Welded backing plate for added strength where it matters most
- Raw or powder coat finish options
The Wide Skid, developed in collaboration with @apexoverland , adds:
- 6” additional width for expanded coverage
- Extra protection for cam bolts during front impacts
- Increased sliding surface for better rock glide performance
Note: Aluminum is not recommended for rock crawling. The Wide Skid is steel-only. Powder coat is offered, but not warranted due to trail wear—raw finish is recommended if you want to customize locally.

Sometimes, that lesson comes the hard way.
“One of the biggest facepalm moments I’ve had was during a recovery scenario,” Jacob recalls. “I was running a hidden winch, and the line got caught and started back-spooling. There was no way to access it without removing the bumper.”
That moment didn’t just get filed away — it shaped how we design winch bumpers today.
“You need to have easy access to the clutch and be able to see the winch line. Hidden winches look great — and they have their place — but for hard winching, you really need that access.”
That’s the difference.
