You might remember that back in March, we told you that six Caxys had represented LFA at this year’s Chicago Metro History Day…well, all six qualified for the statewide Illinois History Day, too! At the end of April, MJ ’27, May ’28, Heeji ’27, Kyra ’27, Clare ’27, and Siran ’27 traveled to Springfield, where they presented their projects to positive feedback once again. Following the statewide competition, Siran was selected to advance to National History Day in the Individual Performance category! Only two high school students per state qualify in each project category, meaning Siran will represent LFA as one of only 74 students from Illinois moving on to the national level! You can learn more about LFA’s National History Day club and their participation in this year’s events at Campus News at the link in our bio.

Prom 2026: a night in full bloom 🌸✨ A beautiful May afternoon was the perfect backdrop for Saturday’s festivities, which began with a pre-Prom party on campus. The Caxys then headed to Milwaukee for a night under the Mitchell Park Domes, where the theme “Enchanted Garden” came to life! More photos from Prom 2026 are available on our SmugMug, link in bio.

And all that jazz 🎷🎨 Students in Advanced Studio Art premiered their newest exhibition in The Cressey Center for the Arts today, with all of the pieces revolving around the theme of jazz! Through drawing, painting, glass, and mixed media, students interpreted jazz visually while responding to its history, emotion, and atmosphere. The pieces explore energy, rhythm, improvisation, movement, and culture. What an impressive display!

It’s always a pleasure to welcome alumni back to campus, and that was definitely the case with last week’s visit by Eliza Woloson ’85! Woloson is an author, applied anthropologist, and United Nations delegate, focusing on human/women’s rights and global advocacy. She joined us for a Learners and Leaders Lunch event, along with two class visits and an evening reception for alumni hosted by Trustee Tom Hodgkins ’85. Woloson visited with our History of Human Rights class, where she led a discussion on current challenges facing the world and how to navigate causes and solutions, and our Global Cohort class, in which she connected her work to the students’ current unit on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Double the shows, double the fun! 🤩🎤 Last week, the LFA community was treated to two musical performances! First, VOX took to the stage Wednesday evening for their spring concert, in which the extracurricular ensemble performed feature hits from musicals like “Newsies”, “The Notebook”, and “Ride the Cyclone”. On Thursday, the LFA choir, along with a number of soloists, presented a variety of vocal and instrumental numbers during All-School Meeting to keep spirits high heading into the end of the school year. More photos from both performances are available on SmugMug, link in bio.

With the support of the LFA Community Health Center, Health and Wellness Prefects Charley ’26 and Matthew ’26 recently hosted a campus CPR informational session in collaboration with the American Heart Association! During the session, students learned about the importance and effectiveness of hands-only CPR in cardiac emergencies and practiced proper technique through guided activities designed to reinforce timing and confidence. The program introduced students to the role that immediate bystander response can play in improving survival outcomes and helped strengthen awareness of lifesaving skills in the school community!

A trio of Caxys recently represented LFA at the 2026 Illinois State Economics Challenge and earned third place while they were at it! 🥉 David ’27, Thomas ’27, and Ethan ’27 traveled to North Central College for the state competition and put their knowledge of economics to the test, after qualifying testing ranked them as one of the highest-scoring teams in their division. Happy Service Learning Day, Caxys! Today, our students, faculty, and staff were engaged in service-based projects both on LFA’s campus and in our local communities. In an effort to help spread the message about why Service Learning Day is so impactful and important, we asked a few students to share with us what the day, and service learning in general, means to them. Whether you were working on environmental cleanup or food packaging, musical performances or community building, we hope your experience today was meaningful!
