LAGOS SPORTS COMMISSION, JJ OMOJUWA FOUNDATION PARTNER ON GRASSROOTS ATHLETE EMPOWERMENT
Access to the right resources often determines whether talent survives or fades. Lagos is moving to close that gap, aligning public policy with public-private partnership initiatives that provide young football talents from disadvantaged backgrounds a real chance to compete and grow.
That intent was formalised at a meeting held between Mr Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, and the founder of JJ Omojuwa Foundation, Mr Japheth Omojuwa. At the meeting, Mr Omojuwa pledged financial support to the Lace Up A Dream Initiative, led by Nabina Fash, who was also in attendance, to distribute free eco-friendly football boots to identified talents within LSSC’s grassroots programmes.
The collaboration sets in motion a structured intervention that links talent identification with direct support, addressing one of the most immediate barriers facing young athletes.
Director General of LSSC, @lf_champ Lekan Fatodu, framed the collaboration as part of a deliberate effort to strengthen the talent pipeline across the state. “We are building a system where talent is identified early, supported with the right resources, and guided through a structured pathway. Support like this helps us reach communities more effectively and ensures that promising athletes are not excluded due to economic limitations. Our focus is to create continuity from grassroots discovery to elite performance,” Fatodu said.
