“A PLACE TO BELONG”
this was a deeply personal project to execute - my exploration into escapism, the illusory nature of having a presence online, and the “why” behind my art.
i’ve been dealing with some mental health issues lately, which has forced me to slow down in every aspect of my life and evaluate what’s truly important to me. it led me to start journaling again and directly face some of my anxieties and truths about myself that i’d been avoiding.
some questions that i asked:
- what about my art gives me a sense of purpose?
- can people feel the soul in my art, or is it nothing beyond beautiful visuals?
- if i use art as escapism, what am i escaping?
- why does it feel like i have yet to find a place to belong?
as i grow and evolve with my art, i’ve found that i don’t have to put my personal journey aside by pursuing fashion or editorial photography - i should be showing more of it.
by integrating more of my personal experiences into my art i feel like i’m falling in love with photography all over again. i stopped letting comparison steal the joy of creating. i’m truly finding a place to belong not only in the community, but in myself.
