In this 1990s-set origin story,
@leximinetree steps into the iconic heroine’s pink heels first worn by
@reesewitherspoon in the beloved 2001 film. This time, however, the teenage lawyer-to-be is a high school student transplanted from Los Angeles to rainy Seattle—a gloomy setting that proves the perfect place for Elle Woods to stand out, a beacon of pink piercing through literal clouds of gray. There, she’ll encounter similar detractors to the ones she’ll eventually meet in law school, from the local mean-girl to the handsome-but-off-limits love interest to the initially-unwilling BFF. (Also getting their own origin stories: Elle’s parents—who must navigate a new neighborhood social scene—as well as Bruiser Woods, Elle’s beloved chihuahua from the film.)
Ultimately these components result in a first season with which
@primevideo feels confident enough that the cast and crew are already filming season 2. And a reintroduction to Elle Woods, just in time for the first movie’s 25th anniversary, may just be what the world needs now. “I think playing a character like Elle is the most empowering thing I could ever do,” Minetree tells ELLE. If her onscreen persona has taught the actress anything, it’s this: “‘You know what? I can.’”
