A couple months ago I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for an article about her new novel “Dream Count” for the Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant. Thanks to @iocooman 💜 for the assignment and edit. They say don’t meet your heroes, but in this case I could not disagree more. Ms. Adichie was warm, thoughtful and open. It was a joy to meet her. @chimamanda_adichie 🙏🏻

Last year I photographed English author, journalist, broadcaster, musician and all around lovely Clemency Burton-Hill for The Telegraph. Burton-Hill wrote a beautiful piece about her struggle and triumphs after suffering a catastrophic brain injury in January 2020. I appreciate so much her openness and vulnerability and willingness to collaborate on making these images. Thank you @clemencybh for your time and @andygreenacre_ for the opportunity.

Ayesha Rascoe, Leila Fadel, Michel Martin and Juana Summers last year for The 19th story “The Voices of NPR: How four women of color see their roles as hosts.” Thanks to @lydiache and these amazing women.

For the @nytimes - I recently photographed Tahir Hamut Izgil, a prominent poet and film director who just released his memoir “Waiting to Be Arrested at Night,” where he describes the Chinese government’s repression of Uyghurs, the predominantly Muslim ethnic minority to which he belonged. I also photographed him with his colleague and friend Joshua L. Freeman, a historian and the translator of Izgil’s poetry and of the memoir. 🙏🏻 to Erica Ackerberg.

Y. Michele Kang, owner of the Washington Spirit, is the first woman of color to own a controlling stake in a National Women’s Soccer League team. Photographed recently for the “Transforming Spaces” series in the @nytimes about women “driving change in sometimes unexpected places.”

Earlier this year I photographed HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge. Huge thanks to the wonderful Melanie Finnern @mfinn624 for helping with serious logistical/moral support after crazy rescheduling snafus and a lovely edit of images for Affordable Housing Finance Magazine.

The layout of every home we went to for this @washingtonianmag story about the Watergate was completely different, which is to be expected when you look at the curvature of the building from the outside. But being inside and seeing it in person was so fun. It was a pleasure to meet the longtime residents of the historic building and to work with @annamarinaaa . Go read the story by @mimi_montgomery ! I had to add an extra of Fred and Jill Schwartz because I wanted to bring their dog home with me. Fred and Jill Schwartz have lived in the same Watergate West unit since 1978. George Arnstein, 98, and his late wife, Sherry, were two of the first people to live at the Watergate, having bought their original unit in 1965 based on plans and models. Jean Efron is an art advisor who has lived in the Watergate since 1987. George and Wati Alvarez-Correa no longer live in the Watergate but still maintain a home there that George purchased in 1979 for $155,000.

As the mother of a kindergartner, I was totally geeked out and excited to get the assignment from @nytimes to photograph Mo Willems - @mo.willems.studio - author of the Elephant and Piggie, and Pigeon books. I photographed the rehearsal for “Don’t Let the Pigeon Sing Up Late!,” a short new opera created with soprano Renée Fleming and composer Carlos Simon at The Kennedy Center. Afterward I made some portraits of Willems. He was a great sport and super fun to photograph. Thank you to @lauraoneillnyc for making my daughter think my job is cool. ♥️
