The Igbo tribe, a prominent ethnic group in Nigeria, has a rich cultural heritage that includes various traditional practices and festivals.
One of the most captivating and physically demanding traditions is Igbo wrestling, which often takes center stage during the New Yam Festival, known as "Iri Ji" or "Iwa Ji."
Few days ago I embarked on a journey to Nnewi, Anambra State to document their annual new yam festival known as the “Afia-Olu New Yam Festival”.
The most interesting activity of the festival to me has to be the wrestling competition among the youths of different communities of Nnewi.
Nnewi, 2023.
