There is never enough slowcore rooted in bands like Duster. Gabe Crawford (Leverpuller) comes from South Carolina and released a five-track EP in November with the slightly bizarre title endless toilet 1.
The opening track rain boy comes from this release, and it carries the familiar haziness of the aforementioned Duster recordings, unfolding in a lethargic, unhurried atmosphere. While listening, I was strongly reminded of Charlie Kaufmanโs film Iโm Thinking of Ending Things. Strange images, a long drive through a snow-covered landscape, fields slipping by outside the car window โ thatโs exactly what rain boy evokes for me. The repetitive riff lodged itself deep in my head, and Crawfordโs whispered vocals fit the song perfectly.

Celebrating Christmas at Art Bar on Saturday, December 13th. Wear your best christmas fit and come hang out with the freaks for the night. Bringing up some friends from Charleston @pinkieband & @bandmantra plus hometown angels @lever.puller and a @mayaywang dj set to close the night out. Thereโs several other great shows happening on this day in town and out of town. This oneโs a late starter with doors at 9, first band 10pm. Will run til 1 or 2am.
