“Mandala”, a core formed vessel by Japan based glass artist @tonbodamashokunin . Daisuke is one of the true masters of core form. His pursuit of symmetry and pattern within glass is just otherworldly.
Core formed glass is one of the oldest known methods of creating glass vessels, predating blown glass by centuries. Archaeological evidence places core formed glass vessels as early as the second millennium BCE in Mesopotamia and Egypt, while glassblowing was not invented until around the 1st century BCE in the eastern Mediterranean. Daisuke has upheld this tradition by pushing it to its limits. Holding and observing one of his core formed pieces in person feels like inspecting a future artifact.

“Ribbon and Clover”, a soft glass disc by Japan based glass artist @sakiyo_takeuchi . This pendant features transparent green murrine depicting clovers and ribbons set within a white disc. The detailed patterns give the piece an almost lace-like quality.
Sakiyo’s work draws from traditional decorative pattern language, reinterpreted through her intricate use of murrine. Recently she shared that much of her inspiration comes from the everyday beauty around her, including flowers, embroidery, and baked goods.

3D geometric patterned Tonbodama by Japan based glass artist Daisuke Takeuchi aka @tonbodamashokunin .
This Tonbodama (dragonfly bead) is made of chip stacked patterned murrine, creating spiraling geometric structures that shift and transform as the bead rotates. Every viewing angle reveals new optical relationships, while each opening of the bead resolves into its own unique symmetrical pattern.
This afternoon we will be sharing a variety of unique Tonbodama by Daisuke through our stories. These will all be archived in our highlights so everyone can revisit them leading up to the release. All of these Tonbodama will be available through our upcoming online exhibition on May 17th at 6pm EDT on our website.

Today we are excited to announce an upcoming online exhibition featuring new works by Japan based glass artists @tonbodamashokunin and @sakiyo_takeuchi , releasing Sunday, May 17th at 6pm EDT on our website.
This marks the first time in over four years that Daisuke and Sakiyo have released new work in the United States, and we are truly honored to represent their art here at Level 42. The exhibition will feature 35 new works including glass beads, tiles, discs, pendants, and core formed vessels, representing one of the largest US releases of their work to date.
Over the next week leading up to the release, we will be sharing all of the available works through our posts and stories. On May 17th, the entire collection will go live simultaneously on our website.
We can’t wait to share these incredible glass treasures with you all. Thank you as always for your continued support, and a heartfelt thank you to Sakiyo and Daisuke for trusting us to represent their art here in the States.

Created entirely from clear glass, all of the color, depth, and internal patterning seen within this piece is produced naturally through refraction and reflection across thousands of meticulously assembled glass elements.

This @mothership_glass egg is the highest piece of glass on the east coast at 6684ft above sea level! A huge thanks goes out to Mothership for including us in this years hunt.
