Going us on LinkedIn this evening let’s talk about Sickle cell. “In Africa, SCD is prevalent, affecting about 1 in 12 people. Worldwide, millions of individuals are born with the disease each year. Awareness and education are critical to reducing the stigma and ensuring access to proper care and treatment.” #sicklecellawareness #sicklecelldisease

ITS SICKLECELL AWARENESS MONTH THIS SEPTEMBER # RED♥️MONTH ❤️# DO YOU KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE OR THAT OF YOUR PARTNER? KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE BEFORE YOU PROPOSE OR ACCEPT PROPOSAL . It baffles me why people always do the first thing last in a relationship 🤔 GENOTYPE is the constitution of every individual. It's the genes or traits one inherits from both parents. IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE Knowing your genotype before choosing a life partner is important because there may be compatibility issues, which could be devastating effects when it comes to conception. TYPES OF GENOTYPE AA AC AS SC SS SD THALASSEMIA GENOTYPE COMPATIBILITY AA to all types - compatible AS to AS - not compatible seek counseling AS to AC - seek counseling AS to SC - not compatible seek counseling SS to SS or SC - not compatible SC to SC - not compatible AC to SC - seek counseling LABORATORY TEST TO DO Screen for genetic conditions. The test is done to detect your genotype. HB Electrophoresis EFFECTS OF KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE POSITIVE: Prevents you from making a bad choice. NEGATIVE: Bringing offspring who carry the sickle cell genes and could become life threatening. Complications of SickleCell. IGNORANCE/INDIFFERENCE People fall in love, and to them, love is all that matters without asking the necessary questions about the future. CONCLUSION Although SickleCell disease is a life threatening, it is manageable and needs special attention. It's drains you financially and affects you psychologically and physically, causing stress. It takes away your time because of availability. You have to be by your childs or spouse side most often. As you choose a life partner know his/her genotype before you say I do from the start of the relationship before its too late so you don't have to suffer for the consequences of the bad choices you made . I am a proud volunteer for @letscreateorg .Let’s Create Together Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to support children with sickle cell disease in Africa and educate them about the condition. This includes not only medical care, but also educational support and social and emotional support. The foundation has a strong network of partnerships with local hospitals and clinics, as well as with schools and other community organizations, which helps to ensure that children with sickle cell disease receive the support they need. On behalf of @letscreateorg Myself and some other volunteers made a donation to THE POTTER’S VILLAGE on the 15th of December. The Potter’s Village (POVI) is a non-profit, nongovernmental organisation founded in May 2000, by Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu with the aim of providing care and support to women and children suffering from domestic violence and abuse. The organisation, previously known as Women’s Refuge & Child Survival Africa (WORCSA), was established as a shelter and refuge centre in Ghana for battered women and abused children, many of whom have a bleak future and need love, care, and protection in order to live fulfilled lives. My heart melted upon seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids #togetherwesavelives #togetherwerise #togetherweachievemore #letscreatetogether #thegiftthatkeepsgiving #givingback #theseasonofgiving
