“They’re Gonna Love It ‘Cause I Die at the End”
Most people want to be loved. André wanted a reaction.
André Is an Idiot director Tony Benna explains why André Ricciardi wasn’t “most people”—if people hated him, it would make the movie even better.

Some stories aren’t just filmed… they’re felt.
In an exclusive conversation with Netflix Junkie, filmmakers Tony Benna and Lee Einhorn talk about their latest movie, 'Andre Is an Idiot.' The duo opened up about finding the balance between observation and emotion, using the camera not just as a tool, but sometimes as a shield. From chaotic beginnings to deeply personal moments, the journey became more than storytelling; it became trust.
Respect, restraint, and real human connection shaped every frame. And sometimes, knowing when not to shoot is just as powerful as capturing the moment.
🎥 A glimpse into how cinema can hold both distance and intimacy at once.

If you're at the @exactsciences@cologuard_classic this weekend, come see a free screening of ANDRE IS AN IDIOT. After the film, @lesus will be in conversation with Lindsay Sichta from @colontown
We’re so excited to bring this celebration of life to folks who are closest to André’s experience.
While in Washington, DC, we had the privilege of being joined by Lee Einhorn, André's best friend, and Tony Benna, director of the documentary ANDRÉ IS AN IDIOT. Together, they're advocating in André's honor.
The Sundance award-winning film tells the story of André Ricciardi, a successful San Francisco advertising executive who was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at age 52 after delaying a colonoscopy that might have saved his life.
Thank you to Lee and Tony for carrying André's story forward and advocating on Capitol Hill for increased funding for colorectal cancer research.
Don’t be an idiot.
Meet our friend André Ricciardi and his big beautiful documentary about living, dying, cancer, and his attempt to scrape DNA off of Kim Kardashian’s pants. Funny, sad, defiant, and truly one of a kind, Caddis is honored to play along in the award-winning “Andre Is an Idiot” journey.
Go see this film.
Get your butt checked.

INTERVIEW | 🎬 What happens when humor meets the harsh reality of mortality?
In André Is an Idiot, filmmakers Tony Benna and Lee Einhorn turn an unimaginable situation into a deeply human documentary about their friend André Ricciardi, who decided to document his life after being diagnosed with terminal colon cancer. The result is a film that balances irreverent humor, brutal honesty, and profound vulnerability.🌸
In our conversation, the filmmakers open up about the emotional challenge of making a movie about a dying friend, the ethics of filming deeply personal moments, and how André’s fearless personality shaped the tone of the film. As Benna puts it, the goal was never to make “a movie about cancer,” but a portrait of a friend who happened to be living, and laughing, through it.

We’re proud to partner with André Is an Idiot, an A24 documentary that’s unexpected, irreverent, and wildly life-affirming.
It tells the story of André — a brilliant, funny, unconventional human — who learns he’s dying from colon cancer that could have been caught with a simple colonoscopy.
So we’re doing what André would probably approve of:
using humor, creativity, and a little disruption to push one very real message —
Get screened.
Early detection saves lives.
A colonoscopy isn’t a punchline. It’s prevention.
🎬 Premieres in NYC March 6, 2026
Chicago, LA, and SF to follow.
Watch the film.
Talk about it.
