El Mercadito offers free, fresh cultural foods and provides access to healthcare services through @chashealth , community resources, and a vibrant multicultural food spot in Spokane. It was established to meet the needs of Latino families in Spokane, offering culturally familiar foods, local products, and essential services for the growing Latino and immigrant community. El Mercadito has evolved beyond a mere market, becoming a trusted place for families to connect, receive care, and feel at home. Visitors can find fresh produce, on-site healthcare through CHAS Health, city and social service resources, and a platform for local Latino and immigrant vendors to showcase their products and culture. Dear Community, Due to the current political climate and recent attacks on our organization and staff, we will not lead this year’s May Day (International Workers’ Day) March in Spokane. For the past two years, Latinos En Spokane has brought together unions, organizations, and immigrant workers to center the often invisible labor of essential workers, including farmworkers and other frontline workers, and to strengthen alignment with International Workers’ Day. We built coalition power, connected our shared struggles, and stood in solidarity to demand dignified workplaces, fair wages, access, and immigrant justice—marching alongside thousands in Spokane. That collective power remains, but in this moment, we must prioritize the safety of our organization. We know labor and immigration are deeply connected within economic systems that rely on workers while keeping them divided and vulnerable. We will continue organizing with workers, unions, and partners across the state to advance protections for frontline immigrant workers. As we made this decision, we also reflected on what true solidarity means. It requires meeting this moment with urgency and purpose—and for allies to actively protect and fight for the dignity of workers and immigrant families. Despite funding cuts, we remain committed to our advocacy, grounded in the belief that everyone deserves a fair share of the wealth their labor creates. Both documented and undocumented workers contribute to this nation’s prosperity. This May Day, we continue the fight for immigration justice and the dignity of all working people, beginning with the safety of our staff and organization. We stand with workers and organizations across the state to speak out, fight back, and call for “No School, No Work, and No Shopping” on May 1st.

This Month at EL MERCADITO we will be celebrating Children’s Day. Children’s Day is a holiday celebrating children, their importance in society, and their well-being, observed annually in Mexico on April 30.
