I’ve long been a fan of the @nybooks art direction, yet I’m still surprised how perfectly this watercolor pairs with the text. Palms are mentioned three times as being: famously combustible, a symbol of glamour, and common subject matter in David Hockney’s paintings. This was a painting made during the 2018-2020 fire season, and the text talks about lessons unlearned @workroom_general @cathouse_proper @nawal @shaptonia

Hi all! I’m having an opening in Brooklyn on 5/8 and would love to see you! I’ve been making some watercolor paintings of recent fires (wildfires, riots, arsons) as well as some related imagery. The gallery is sweet, holds art nicely, and has a sociable sidewalk. Openings are much longer now, but I’ll be there from 4:00 onward, at least (will try for more!). I’ll post the text of the awesome press release below, written by the brilliant @catherine__taylor . Love my art community! Looking forward to being in the city a lot more, too! 🔥 😘

An entire show about cats?! And I’m in it?! What a nice way to start the season! Congrats to @mikemorganart and @e.m.ansary for putting together this delightful exhibition at @cornellaap . (This first image is mine, oil paint on John Travolta LP album cover, made during the year I changed meds or hit my head on something) 🐈 Reception: Wednesday, September 24th, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Venue: Olive Tjaden Gallery, Tjaden Hall, Cornell University Magnum O-Pspsps is an expansive exhibition devoted to cats (and, in limited solidarity, dogs). This exhibition is an unapologetic celebration of our furry companions as muses, metaphors, and comfort objects. A playful nod to the latin phrase magnum opus, this show avows that, very often, an artist’s greatest work… is their cat. Featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, and mixed-media from current Cornell students, alumni, faculty, lecturers, visiting critics, and invited artists beyond Cornell, Magnum O-Pspsps is both a love letter and a low-stakes, high-reward gathering of our extended creative litter. The exhibition spans domestic cats and wild felines, as well as symbolic, metaphorical, and tangential interpretations. Including works by: Kiki Smith, Pamela Sneed, Leeza & Katya Meksin, Eric Hibit, Dona Nelson, Joanna Malinowska, Leslie Brack, George Boorujy, Julianne Hunter, Steve Keister, Kate Clark, Will Hutnick, Erika Ranee, Catherine Haggarty, Lisa Lebofsky, Emily Henretta, JJ Manford, Emily Weiskopf, Jan Baracz, Terry Plater, Onome Olotu, Tatiana Tatum, a/d, Noel Neri, Maximilliana Mango, Katherine Twomey, Michael Morgan, Elina Ansary, Marissa Cote, Rebekah Church, Lesley Finn, John O’Donnell, Brittany House, Karen Harrod, Zoe Papini, Arden Conine, Jenny Pope, Sheila Novak, Annamariah Knox, Carla Liesching, Kate Finneran, Bella Barhorst, Anda Tanaka, Melanie Vote, and Juan Hinojosa.

I am so pleased to have four paintings of melting ice cubes in Los Angeles’ @foyer_la . This first painting in the series was completed at the wonderful @moulinanef in Auvillar last August. It was very hot then, I painted during several 100 degree+ days. It was perfect. Here you can see the gallery’s wonderful use of scale and volume in this exhibition shot—such a beautiful concept and execution! (my painting is that tiny rectangle in the back) “Yoking- the action of joining- explores interconnectedness whether that be of a formal discussion dealing with gravity or suspension- inaccessibility to an interior- the interface of mechanics and the body- medicinal healing- illusionistic space- fragile attempts to hold power and time. The seven women artists in yoking embrace ideas of impermanence offering a possible way to stay steady within change. Thru 8/2 @foyer_la LA CA @katrina_umber @sandra_peters_art @lesliebrack @elliekrakow @christineelfman @denarobertson_ @sheng_weaves ” 1) first ice cube oil painting 2) installation shot at @foyer_la 3) outdoor table near studios at @moulinanef with grape leaves for shade

I love print! I read print. Every time I’m in NYC I go to my favorite magazine store and buy…print. I prefer printed money/cash, printed mail, printed menus (QR menus are the worst). I buy more printed books than I can read. I’m so grateful to see my work reproduced in the @nyrbooks with this insightful article, but I forgot to post the print version so here it is now 😘 🔥

We called them Canadian sunsets—the 2023 wildfires in Ontario and Quebec turned the skies a hazy ochre color and smelled like wood stove. I made some quick sunset sketches, and then went swimming in the coppery water with no one around (edit: IG cropped the second one badly)

Mudroom opens at @foyer_la on the 20th, a generous (and generative*) exhibition celebrating all who’ve shown there in the past, and asking each of those artists to invite someone new. I invited @arturosotophoto who’s photography I’ve long admired. Slide #2 is an installation shot of my Bomb #4 with a piece by @oojonseatonoo . Proceeds going to @griefxhope . I just made an independent donation to this group which supports artists and art workers impacted by the fires. Thank you @walshconstance for bringing us all together! 🥾 (Third slide is a detail of Bomb #4) *descriptive text stolen from @sarah_bedford_
