The beauty of Georgian architecture was enough to make us forget the biting cold. It was actually our first step in a Christian country after spending 8 months in predominantly Muslim countries.

Facing the freezing cold, reminding us of our humanity, we discovered some unforgettable camping spots.
Dealing with punctured sleeping pads and not-so-winter-ready clothes made things a bit tricky.
Time to head to Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, to gear up for the chilly winter ahead!

This snow and cold weather in Europe brings back memories of the same time last year when we were cycling through winter in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia.
Navigating between the Gombori range on our left and the majestic Great Caucasus range on our right, every pedal stroke made us yearn to crane our necks for a better view. Yet, the chill in the air always caught up with us, causing us to huddle our necks into our shoulders 😅.

Edik was one of the best and most unexpected encounters we had during our recent trip to Azerbaijan.
We had been in the country for over 15 days without officially registering our presence with the immigration office, which meant we were technically staying on Azerbaijani soil illegally. When we attempted to cross the border into Georgia, the border police officers informed us that we couldn't do so.
It was at this point that Edik stepped in to help us navigate this bureaucratic maze. He went out of his way to assist us every step of the way.
Thanks to Edik's support, we not only managed to resolve the administrative dilemma but also had the opportunity to spend wonderful days with him and his friends. We even celebrated Christmas ahead of time, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Following up our cycling adventure in Azerbaijan we had have the chance to talk with @mammad_rashidov .
🟠 Mammed Rashidov, a sculptor hailing from Azerbaijan, has passionately devoted over 18 years to the creation of a diverse and extensive body of art.
🟠 His artistic focus gravitates towards waste art installations and ecological works, primarily crafted from discarded materials.
🟠 Two of his creations triggered our attention :
- the 'GAZ 21 Volga' installation, weaving together elements from a retro car and crushed glass, transforming them into a masterpiece of artistic expression.
- the 'BP-bird' sculpture, crafted from metal structures and crushed glass, inspired by the fragility of nature following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
🟠 His artistic journey encapsulates the essence of contemporary art, a medium through which he masterfully conveys the collective subconscious, reflecting the intricate tapestry of modern existence. Within the subtle nuances and hidden depths of his art, he skillfully communicates a spectrum of emotions, deftly weaving together elements that provoke both joy and contemplation.

This morning, although the rain has spared us, the humidity is oppressive. Our route cuts through small villages where life moves at a slow pace. Only the tea houses and markets are bustling. We encounter few people.
As winter approaches, the sun becomes scarce, and some days a white carpet covers the sky from morning till evening.
We lift our heads from our handlebars once we arrive in Sheki. Time for a two-night stop to explore the historic center, which was a Silk Road trading post, best known for its magnificent palace and pottery workshops. We also take the time for a wine tasting. The country isn’t widely known for it, but according to the oenologist who welcomed us, the country has a long history with grapes, marked by challenges, including radical Islam and Soviet prohibition.

What could be better than finding a cozy guesthouse to reward ourselves after that tough ascent in the middle of winter (especially with our deflated mattresses!)?!
A blanket of mist gently settles over the valley, which doesn’t seem to be any good for resuming our journey the next day...
But anticipating misfortunes in advance means enduring them twice, so let's focus on exploring the village of Lahiç first !
