I fell in love with snakes the first time I held one—felt the smooth scales, the steady power. Being a snake handler is not just passion; it is trust balanced on a razor’s edge. One careless move, one distracted second, and the cobra does not forgive.

The chameleon is a fascinating reptile well adapted to the dry savannah and rocky landscapes of the region. Known for its ability to change color, it uses this skill not only for camouflage but also for communication and temperature regulation. In local communities, chameleons hold cultural significance, often viewed with curiosity and respect. Ecologically, they play an important role in controlling insect populations, acting as natural pest managers. Their quiet presence in the ecosystem reflects balance, reminding people of the deep connection between wildlife and daily life in northern Kenya.

🌍 World Elephant Day – Walking Together for Giants Today, as the sun rises over the vast Samburu landscape, the air is filled with a sense of pride and purpose. Here at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, within the heart of Namunyak Community Conservancy, we celebrate a journey that began with a bold dream — to be the first community in Africa to own and run an elephant sanctuary. This sanctuary was born from the love and determination of local people who refused to stand by as orphaned and injured elephants struggled to survive. We came together — warriors, women, elders, and youth — to create a safe haven where every rescued calf has a second chance, and where elephants and people thrive side by side. Today, on World Elephant Day, we not only celebrate these gentle giants, but we also launch an ambitious campaign: to raise $250,000 USD for a Rapid Veterinary Unit. This unit will bring lifesaving treatment to elephants in distress — from rescue missions deep in the wild, to on-the-spot medical care that could mean the difference between life and death. Every dollar is a step closer to faster response times, advanced medical equipment, and the ability to protect more elephants across northern Kenya. We invite you to be part of this incredible story. Walk with us, share in our mission, and help us write the next chapter of community-led conservation. Together, we can show the world that when a community takes ownership, change is not only possible — it’s unstoppable. 🐘 Donate today. Stand with Reteti. Stand for elephants.

Old is truly gold. Sitting beside my grandpa, I’m not just sharing a moment — I’m inheriting wisdom, leadership, and values that no book can teach. I’m so lucky to learn from him while I still can. To the young generation: treasure the time you have with the older generation. Listen, ask, learn… because their experiences are priceless, and once they’re gone, so is that living library of life."

Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Thank you for being my hero, my guide, and my greatest source of strength. Your love, wisdom, and quiet sacrifices have shaped me in ways words can't express. I’m forever grateful for everything you’ve done and continue to do. I love you deeply, and I hope today brings you as much joy as you’ve given me all my life. You’re the best dad in the world—today and always. I love you so much Papa

The beauty of Mathew Range, my homeland, takes my breath away every time. This morning, the light kissed the peaks of Warges, reminding me how blessed I am to be Samburu. There’s nowhere like home. @sararatreehouses #namunyakwildlifeconservancy #samburucounty #northernkenya

The Hooded Vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus) is a critically endangered scavenger found across Africa. With its distinctive bare head and sharp eyesight, it plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by cleaning up carcasses and preventing disease spread. Sadly, habitat loss, poisoning, and hunting have pushed this species to the brink of extinction. Every creature needs conservation and protection—protect nature, and nature will feed and protect you. Join us in conserving land and wildlife in Northern Kenya , where we work as a community to conserve and protect our land and our wildlife. Together, we can make a difference.@sararacamps #sararatreehouses #namunyakwildlifeconservancy #retetielephantsanctuary #magicalkenyake

We encountered a spirited young male elephant who was clearly feeling confident and full of energy. He trumpeted, flared his ears, and gave us a playful display of mock charges, showing off his strength and attitude. It’s incredible to witness such bold behavior up close—a true reminder of the raw beauty and personality of wildlife. He may be young, but he's already mastering the art of being the king of the bush.#sararacamps#sararawilderness#northernkenya#ecolodges#sustainabiletourism#kenyasafari#samburulandandculture#lovenature.
