No AI. No CGI. No VFX.
Just an iPhone, self taught camera skills, and a cool location! 📸
Captured while working cinematography at the
@tiesto DJ Tiësto concert, at the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt.
An unreal location, perfect timing for that classic orbit.
This is an in camera effect used by filmmakers and cinematographers called the “parallax effect” and works because I’m far from the subject.
📲 I used my iPhone 14 Pro’s x3 Zoom and its stabilisation tool called “Action Mode”.
See, when you step back (physically) from the subject and zoom in to frame them, instead of being close up with a wider angle view, the background appears to move closer to your subject; getting bigger.
The closer the background looks with the zoom, the faster it moves in the shot.
As the camera moves, the foreground shifts faster than the background, creating depth and scale.
The more distance between you and the subject, the stronger the separation feels.
- Step by step:
1️⃣ - Find a location with some depth, look for a “foreground”, a “mid-ground” and “background” some distance apart. I am in the foreground, the pyramids are the background, the stage is the middle.
2️⃣ - Zoom in to your subject using the x3 or more (iPhone 15 - x5, iPhone 17 Pro - x4 and x8) and and take several steps back until your subject has a little space around them, a nice medium on them, as if you were on x1 zoom.
3️⃣ - Turn on “Action Mode”, which looks like a little running 🏃🏻♂️ then hit record and move around your subject in a semi circle arc (or full circle) but move quickly while keeping it in the frame.
And you’re done ✅🫶
You don’t need A.I., you don’t need a super fancy camera, you just need to learn some cool skills.
Experiment with where you stand and when you move. And of course, have a cool background like the freakin’ Pyramids helps!
Special thanks to
@mrsglazen for filming this brilliantly to my instructions! And to
