— The tools we are given —
New painting on wood, 100 x 100 cm.
This painting presents an enlarged wooden puzzle composed of eleven carefully hand-painted pieces. Each piece carries the image of an object, tools commonly associated with the instruments of a thief.
As children, we are all given “tools”, values, habits, knowledge, and perspectives. These tools are not always physical, yet they profoundly shape what we become. One child may grow into a doctor, guided by care, discipline, and empathy. Another may follow a different path, shaped by a different set of influences and circumstances.
The painting does not seek to judge but to question. It asks: what are we placing into the hands of the next generation? Which pieces are we offering them to build their future? See and play, now on show @mazelgalerie Brussels.
— Becoming — new painting on show @mazelgalerie Brussels / 94 x 136 cm.
The painting symbolizes childhood dreams and imagination. The artwork captures the intersection between play, imagination, and identity, highlighting how childhood experiences shape our understanding of who we want to become.
‘PYSANKY’ acrylic painting on wooden panel, 88 x 152 cm.
In Ukraine, egg decorating is an important art form that dates back centuries, known as Pysanky.
A symbol, to ward off evil from overtaking the world, to scare off bad spirits, as well as harbingers of good.
A symbol of national heritage that exemplifies the resilience and cultural identity of the Ukrainian people.
Request:
Is it possible to create a mural on a pillar of 8,5 meter high and 2 meter wide, covering all four sides, combined with a single augmented reality animation?
Objective of the mural:
Design a mural that can be viewed from every angle. No matter where the viewer stands, a 3D effect should always be visible.
Challenge mural:
Unlike my usual approach, I cannot rely on distortion techniques that only work from one specific viewpoint. Instead, I need to work with shapes that have straight angles and can be stacked effectively, such as suitcases.
AR Objective:
The mural should be scannable with the LeonKeer app from any position around the pillar. Each side must function as a marker to trigger the 3D animation. Within this animation, every suitcase should be recreated digitally as a 3D object based on the painted elements. Each individual suitcase can then be animated in a way that remains visible from all sides.
Challenge:
While the above already presents some complex challenges, the biggest one lies in the AR integration across all four painted sides. The animation must remain consistently visible in 3D from every angle, allowing viewers to walk around the pillar and experience a seamless, continuous AR interaction.

This tower of suitcases presents migration as a fundamental human movement. Each suitcase carries a personal story of departure and arrival. Together, they form an unstable yet supporting structure: a world built from individual journeys. The vertical form suggests growth and progress, but also vulnerability. Migration appears here not as an exception, but as a foundation of human history and coexistence. Thanks Massina @marijespelbos for painting alongside me in the cold and thanks @studiowehberg for the smooth production. #leonkeer #autostadt #springawakening

— Common Grond — mixed media on canvas 160 x 80 cm. On show @casscontemporary ‘Gleam’
In a world where polarization continues to push individuals and communities further apart, the sense of separation and fragmentation becomes ever more visible. Differences in opinion, belief, and identity are often amplified, creating distance where there once was connection.
This artwork serves as a reminder that, despite these divisions, we are still deeply connected. Beneath the surface of disagreement lies a shared humanity that binds us together. “Common Ground” invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the importance of mutual respect and understanding. It encourages us to seek what unites us rather than what separates us.
