18630 random soundfiles, 2024 I once tried to recover deleted and corrupted files from my hard drive and ended up with 18,630 unlabeled soundfiles. These files form a chaotic mix of samples from older projects, my own recordings, soundfiles from other programs I had on my computer, and binary noise. A fraction of this vast, pretty much random collection of sounds became the sonic foundation for this piece. By selecting some of my favorite sample combinations, I arrived at this strange blend of polished jingles and a noisy aesthetic. While the former could be considered kitschy, it is anchored by the latter and my current interest in strict rhythmic progressions. These contrasts create an intriguing dynamic throughout the piece. Swëlst, 2024 Swelling (German: schwellen) and pomposity (German: Schwulst) are the central themes in this piece. For example, the swell pedal of the organ plays a special role: It is no longer just a volume control, but the interface with which the organist controls the live electronics. Swëlst is also an exploration of the sublime, and of pathos, if you will, that is often inherent in an organ. Written for Matthias Geuting and the Walcker-Organ in Essen Werden. How to disentrain your cat with a laser pointer, 2024 Depending on your perspective, this piece could be about how to "disembark from a train", "precipitate out of a flowing current", "disrupt an organism's [...] rhythm so that it is not aligned with its environment", "disrupt a body's [...] patterns" or to "extinguish a conditioned association".
