In this three-hour workshop, Lena Schattenberg and Michael Akstaller explore the intersection of movement, sound, and space. Taking their collaborative work Stillstand as a starting point, repetition and stillness are approached as an active practice of perception. An open research format working with bodily scores, sound as an autonomous material, and spatial listening. Movement, attention, and duration intertwine through shared practice. For dancers, performers, musicians, sound artists, and anyone interested in process-based, embodied, and experimental approaches. No prior experience required. STILLSTAND // Michael Akstaller (DE) & Lena Schattenberg (AT) Residency @Im_flieger Work-in-progress showing 30.1.2026 pictures: Franzi Kreis In their collaboration, Lena Schattenberg and Michael Akstaller explore the relationship between repetition and apparent stasis, how internal loops manifest themselves physically and sonically, and how new impulses can arise from this. In an age of constant stimuli, STILLSTAND deliberately focuses on the small, the easily overlooked - repetition becomes means of shifting perception, an act of reusing, a political gesture. The two artists pursue their individual research and remain in dialogue with each other and with the space. Akstaller explores architecture with sound, Schattenberg with the body - they meet in searching, in friction, in subtle shifts. STILLSTAND consciously rejects linear narration, opening fields of associations and individual perspectives instead, in which viewers and performers alike may lose, observe, and reorient themselves. @michaelakstaller @franzikreis @im_flieger

Today we’re releasing this small gem — a video from the collaboration between Michael Akstaller and Lena Schattenberg, recorded during our project “Stillstand” at @beim_bast Stillstand explores how repetition and apparent pause can become a source of new impulses. Movement and sound collide, shift perception, and open space for what is usually unseen. Between exhaustion and the longing for rest, the body seeks connection — with architecture, sound, and the audience. An acoustic-performative intervention without narration, inviting association rather than explanation. Special thanks to @blzt_tanz and @beim_bast for the support. The workshop is an open research format in which simple, clearly defined tasks are worked on through repetition, duration, and attention. Physical movement sequences encounter sound phenomena and spatial hearing. Inner and outer loops are made visible and audible – and explored through joint activity. An open research format for dancers, performers, musicians, sound artists, and curious individuals – with a focus on the process, joint exploration, perception, and sharing of practice. The intensity of the body-based aspects can be chosen individually and adjusted at any time. THE MANY DANCE celebrates the joy of dancing and the many different ways (forms and strategies) of moving, being moved, and moving each other! The workshop alternates between guided exercises and collaborative improvisations. In this, we discover our ability to deliberately shift the focus of our observation and openly approach the unknown. We use exercises in which we explore the self through consciously relating to space, sound and other organisms; we train mindful interaction and vigorously shift our focus to musicality and rhythm. While improvising we allow ourselves to alternately and simultaneously direct our focus inward and outward, to listen and observe, to release tension and to curiously immerse ourselves in different universes. The workshop wants to be conceived as a river that is in continual motion and constantly changes direction. Together, we want to create an energy that nourishes, inspires, and connects us. We want to lead and be led, touch and be touched, move and be moved. I wish to create a space for exploration, physical challenge, creative play, and, above all, the joy of dancing! PRICE:
1 workshop: 40€ 2 workshops: 75€ The workshops can be booked separately or together.
