‘Faithful’ - To My Irish Heritage
My Final Project
The Brit School
I wanted to further explore my family’s Irish heritage. I was keen to delve into Ireland’s culture, history and political rivalry. I chose to blend this with contemporary references for a fresh perspective.
I’ve drawn on the craftsmanship of Donegal Tweed - the textile of my grandfathers homeland to illustrate the beauty and longevity of past traditions that framed his home town of Ardara.
I was eager to merge the history and traditions of the past with contemporary references this includes the popular TV show ‘The Traitors’ and artists of the moment, Kneecap who echo the spirit of unity that Ireland shares with the people of Palestine.
I wanted the garments to be rich in heritage,stylish yet dramatic.
The project aim was to form a reflective and sensitive response to my family’s heritage and Ireland’s past.
