Let's get into some Black magical girl lore. My name is Pearl Low and I'm the creator of Wheels & Roses, a magical girl meets roller derby coming of age story. You may have seen our show's protagonist Sahara around, but I want to give her some more backstory on her. Sahara is our magical-less protagonist in a magical world and is often called a "noma" (lowkey a slur for someone unable to use magic) and In the universe of Wheels & Roses, magic is a part of many aspects of society. For example in Sahara's town, trains operate by electric spells. People infuse plant magic into food, for medicinal purposes. Sports, like roller derby, incorporate magic to up the stakes. Sahara’s arc in the series is learning to embrace her uniqueness as a strength. Sahara is super optimistic, but in my (biased) opinion lol, I feel it's because she knows the value of persevering through hard situations. She's lived her whole life in a world where everyone can use magic and she cannot. She's deffos had to build some thick skin, and she chooses to be optimistic through it all, in order to keep going and trying her best!! If you want to see more magical girls on skates, then PLEASE watch our pilot on YouTube and share it with someone who you'd think would like it! See you in the next video.

"Rivals" Sahara and the Sunflower High Captain are rivals, but not in a toxic way✨ As I've gotten older, I've really come to appreciate good sportsmanship amongst peers and opponents I've played sports against. You can learn so much from your "rivals" and form really close bonds with those people. 🥰🛼✨🔥

We need a CO-Producer and Distributor for this Black magical girls show, or it may never exist. Hey, my name is Pearl Low and I'm the creator of "Wheels & Roses", a magical girl meets roller derby coming of age story. I've directed at studios like sanrio, AND worked on shows like Cartoon Network's Craig of the Creek. I also have an academy award, NAACP award, nomination, and Annie award nomination under my belt. My studio orange Blossom studios in collaboration w/ nuboom studios have just released our pilot short on YouTube. It's filled with fun, black girl magic and it's hella queer. We need your support to take this project further. If you believe in indie animation and FUN stories then please share this video and watch our pilot on YouTube. It means a lot. See you in the next video!

Working on Craig of the Creek was one the best projects I've ever worked on. I feel so grateful to have been able to create storyboards and write on episodes with Sparkle Cadet alongside such an amazing crew! Because of all I learned at the Creek, I really felt the confidence to try to make my own magical girl show. (Also if you want to see this scene, it's from the episode "The Jump Off!". I love Sparks' athletic magical girl outfit hehe) So here we are. "Wheels & Roses", my magical girl meets roller derby coming of age story is out NOW OUT YOUTUBE!! GOGOG WATCH THE PILOT!!! It's filled with so much fun and joy and I really hope you feel the same. xx
