“I’m riveted by [A Soldier's Tale and Steam] being paired with one another! I find them both 'devastating' in the most extraordinary way. Stravinsky’s tried and true work cuts deep as it colorfully and magically excites our collective desires for shaping our destiny, however futile. Steam’s devastation, on the other hand, occurs as very real lives collide; a result of the main character taking his destiny and the history it will affect into his own hands. In both works, I am one and I am many. It’s an absolute thrill!" — Omari Tau, baritone and narrator

This Saturday! Join us for a free preview of ‘Steam’ by David Dominique and Joseph Tepperman.
Saturday, April 11, 6:30pm
Cosumnes River College, Sacramento
Music Dept. Recital Hall
At this event, [Omari Tau, David Dominique, librettist Joseph Tepperman, pianist Jennifer Reason, and Matilda Hofman] will give audiences a sneak peek into this work set to premiere at the Ruth Williams Opera House, June 6th and 7th. "Steam" is a three-volume cycle of multimedia works, with fragments that break off from it—preludes, afterlives—in which the retelling of slavery becomes a site of rupture, distortion, and risk.
