Will Andy Burnham be our next Prime Minister?
Plenty of things could get in his way; The NEC, Reform UK, Wes Streeting…
Whatever happens, whoever leads the Labour Party, we are all too aware who they serve. They sold out to corporate interests.
No to the status quo.
No to billionaires.
No to Labour.
Fight for a better world.
Josh Simons, MP for Makerfield, has announced he will resign to make way for Andy Burnham to run in a by-election in the Greater Manchester constituency.
The move comes after Wes Streeting resigned as health secretary this morning, signalling he was going to challenge Starmer for the leadership.
The decision will now be taken by the National Executive Committee of The Labour Party to decide if Burnham will be allowed to run for the seat, something he was denied of earlier this year in Gorton and Denton.
The leader of the Labour Party must be a member of parliament.
Even if Burnham were given permission to run there’s no guarantee he would make it into parliament before a new leader of The Labour Party is elected, with allies of Wes Streeting likely to push for a quick election to deny Burnham the chance of running.
There’s also no guarantee Andy Burnham will win the seat. Last election Makerfield voted 45% for Labour and 32% for Reform, but current polling shows Reform winning comfortably in the constituency.
Burnham has significant popularity across Greater Manchester and it will likely aid him in winning over voters, but it’s yet to be seen how his attempt to use the constituency to become prime minister will be perceived by the public.

Can Andy Burnham win in Makerfield?
MRP polling data shows Reform well ahead in Makerfield, the constituency Andy Burnham has confirmed he will seek to run in.
This poll is a model based on national polling and obviously doesn’t take into account the fact that the Labour candidate will be Andy Burnham, a well liked figure across Greater Manchester.

(UPDATE - total is now 67 MPs)
55 Labour MPs have either directly called for Keir Starmer to resign or for him to ‘set a timetable for his resignation.’
The Starmer government is crumbling. Good riddance.
But what comes next?
The bizarre calls for a ‘resignation timetable’ or a ‘peaceful transfer of power’ show just how out of touch the Labour Party still is. Even those calling for Starmer’s resignation are clearly not aware of the existential damage that has been done to the Labour Party.
Replace Starmer with Wes Streeting, Ed Miliband, Angela Rayner… then what?
The party is still full of MPs who have willingly supported and voted for austerity, corruption and genocide.
The Labour Party has been captured by corporate interests, and been used as a political tool and chastise the working class, the labour movement and any socialist momentum built in this country.
For the working class to win, The Labour Party must die.
The projected vote share based on local election results shows a decline for Reform and a surge for Green.
Reform still remain solidly ahead in national option polls, and this projection reflects that, however they have suffered a small decrease in both since last year.
The Greens projection continues the trend we have seen in voting intention polls across the country, they are gaining support and becoming more likely to be the main challenger to Reform in a national election.
While there were gains for the Conservative Party, they remained in 3rd place in terms of vote share, along with Labour, signalling what many people have believed for a long time now: the two party system in dead.
