It was nice to revisit the Penistone retrofit project the other day. This is the one little bit of new build that was part of the job - a porch to provide a kind of airlock to the newly well insulated and air-tight house proper. The door is furthermore inset to provide shelter while you get your keys out in those Pennine winters!

I've been busy doing architecture and some also some teaching and not so much Insta, but here is a current project - an interesting extension to an old but much previously modified house near Chesterfield. Amongst other things this is an exercise in readjusting it to its site. The sketches are from initial idea to a more evolved design. In for planning at the moment.
This project comprises a modest single storey extension - this part really couldn’t be simpler, just a mono-pitch roof built off the back of the house - that combined with some ingenuity with the replanning and opening up of the interior, makes a compact terraced house surprisingly spacious once you pass over the threshold of the narrow entrance - deceptive even!

Continuing the retrofit and revamp theme from yesterday, the external insulation of this recently completed scheme in Sheffield is enlivened with weatherboarding to the upper floor. #mocktudorbegone!
Perhaps not so well known fact: you need planning permission to re-façade your house like this, restrictions apply to any house, not just those listed or in a conservation area.
