✨ ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM ✨
Yesterday we attended the R&D sharing of Elephant in the Room — a new dance theatre piece exploring female autism, neurodiversity and South Asian girlhood at the
@thesohopoly presented by
@komolacollective
As Co-Chair of EPT and Co-Founder of SEN Seva, this is work we’ve contributed to over time, creating space for families to share what is so often left unsaid. Writer
@leesagazi spent time listening to these lived experiences, helping shape the direction of this piece.
And you could feel that.
The relationship between an autistic child and her sibling was portrayed with such honesty, moments that felt deeply real, yet are rarely seen or understood.
So often, we are busy supporting, fixing, advocating.
This made us do something different:
👉 Pause
👉 Be present
👉 Step into their world
The two young performers - Taz and Laraib gave powerful performances which were grounded, raw, and authentic. At times, it felt less like a performance and more like real life unfolding - as if cathartic.
This was a snapshot, and we’re keen to see how stigma, disability and cultural sensitivities are further woven into the full production next year.
A privilege to also be part of the panel alongside
@poppyjaman and Lauren Priddey, each giving our insights on the play.
💚 These stories matter.
🧡 Representation matters.
