We are heartbroken that Birangona Freedom Fighter Tepri Rani Barmon passed away today. It was an honour to share her burning story in Rising Silence, alongside her fellow survivors. Their courage carries the wounds and history of a nation. We remain committed to amplifying their voices, so they are remembered across generations and borders with love, dignity, and pride. So their stories continue to awaken the world’s conscience and demand justice. ✨ ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM ✨ Yesterday we attended the R&D sharing of Elephant in the Room — a new dance theatre piece exploring female autism, neurodiversity and South Asian girlhood at the @thesohopoly presented by @komolacollective As Co-Chair of EPT and Co-Founder of SEN Seva, this is work we’ve contributed to over time, creating space for families to share what is so often left unsaid. Writer @leesagazi spent time listening to these lived experiences, helping shape the direction of this piece. And you could feel that. The relationship between an autistic child and her sibling was portrayed with such honesty, moments that felt deeply real, yet are rarely seen or understood. So often, we are busy supporting, fixing, advocating. This made us do something different: 👉 Pause 👉 Be present 👉 Step into their world The two young performers - Taz and Laraib gave powerful performances which were grounded, raw, and authentic. At times, it felt less like a performance and more like real life unfolding - as if cathartic. This was a snapshot, and we’re keen to see how stigma, disability and cultural sensitivities are further woven into the full production next year. A privilege to also be part of the panel alongside @poppyjaman and Lauren Priddey, each giving our insights on the play. 💚 These stories matter. 🧡 Representation matters. #neurodiversity #southasianvoice #breakingstigmas

R&D for my new dance‑theatre family show "Elephant In The Room", presented by @komolacollective , is underway. The play explores imagination, sisterhood, and neurodiversity through the lives of two sisters, Hana and Asha. 🐘🐳🌊 Developed through research with Magic Care Moments and Empowering Parents Together, and rooted in conversations with families, the piece uses movement, puppetry, and visual storytelling to trace how the sisters navigate care and play, centring the imaginative worlds they build together. We are proud and honoured to share the YouTube link of the documentary film #RisingSilence by @leesagazi , which looks at the lives of #Birangona women, survivors of sexual violence in the aftermath of the Liberation War of #Bangladesh. It is their story: the trauma they carry, the stigma they endure, and the strength and resilience with which they continue. Rising Silence was streaming on Amazon Prime Video (outside Asia), but it has now been removed. When we asked why, we were told: “Some people objected.” We will continue to amplify and champion their burning stories and towering voices everywhere, safeguarding them to ensure they are never forgotten and remembered with love and pride across nations and generations. We must hold global platforms accountable for silencing the voices of survivors. Priyanka Basu’s interview with our Joint Artistic Director, @leesagazi , is now live on the @criticalcollective.in website. In this wide-ranging conversation, they reflect on Gazi’s past and ongoing work in theatre and cinema, with particular focus on the Birangona women of Bangladesh, her acclaimed film "Barir Naam Shahana" (Bangladesh’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature), her forthcoming film Shasti (Punishment) inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s 1893 short story, and the complexities of gender politics and discrimination within the Bangladesh/UK diaspora. The full interview is behind a paywall. Link: https://criticalcollective.in/Noticeboard.aspx
