Happy Mother’s Day to Katherine Jackson Michael Jackson’s mom and Matriarch of the Jackson’s… visiting Bob Marley and the Wailers at our house at 56 Hope Rd Kingston Jamaica here with Bunny Wailer and the great Aston Familyman Barrett musician extraordinaire 🎶🎶🎶..March 1975
It wasn’t Michael Jackson then it was The Jackson 5 that descended with their bewildered entourage on Hope Rd in March 1975. I don’t think any of them had seen a Dreadlocks in person. I thought there would have been something celebratory in what I viewed as an historic meeting but everything though cordial was very subdued. I took a few pictures. One with Bob, Bunny Livingston (aka Bunny Wailer who along with Peter Tosh were the founders of the Wailers), Wailers bass player Aston “Family Man” Barrett and the Jackson mom Katherine who knew how to mug for the camera. The shot I took with Michael with brother Jermaine, Wailers percussionist and my lifelong friend Secco Patterson and a Dread whose name I can’t remember I find truly haunting. There seemed so much distance between the Motown stars and Rasta culture. And I just couldn’t shake the feeling that Michael—the genius prodigy— more than just feeling the cultural void was deeply personally troubled.
The brilliant innovator genius Manley Augustus Buchanan the one and only BIG YOUTH … still BIG and still YOUNG holding court downtown Kingston and backstage NYC He opened my mind to vast new possibilities of what pop music could be his global influence can not be overstated
The only photos I have of me in Jamaica, shot by a 7-year-old (2nd photo) who wanted to learn how to use my film camera.
After a cold swim at Cane River Falls: where @bobmarley and friends used to go to escape the chaos of Kingston and feel a fleeting sense of freedom.

Last two photos of Bob shot at Cane River Falls in the 70’s by the legendary @leejaffe - a fellow Bronx-born photographer.
Peter Tosh aka “The Bush Doctor “: the 1st I heard the song was Peter on his acoustic in his living room near Spanish Town. I visioned an album cover portrait regaling in the herb field… officially inaugurating the movement to legalize cannabis 🎶🎶🎶
