Leeahn Gallery Daegu is pleased to present A Field of Becoming, a solo exhibition by Lee Kang-So, one of the most significant figures in Korean experimental art, opening on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Through approximately twenty recent paintings and sculptures, the exhibition offers a multifaceted view of the artistโs lifelong inquiry into the question of becoming. Lee Kang-Soโs work is less the result of deliberate control than an event arising from the intersection of material conditions, bodily movement, and chance.
Rather than constructing fixed forms, the artist attends to the conditions through which forms come into being. In doing so, he transforms the artwork into a field of experience that is continuously renewed in each moment. Resonating with the East Asian concept of 'Qi' (ๆฐฃ), his artistic practice gives visual form to states in which invisible energies gather and unfold, inviting viewers to become active participants in the process of becoming.

Yoon-Heeโs upcoming exhibition presents both sculpture and painting, rooted in her ongoing exploration of improvisation and materiality.
The flow and solidification of molten metal, along with the acts of pouring, spraying, and throwing paint, unfold through unpredictable movement. Rather than following a predetermined result, the works emerge through momentary sensation, response, and interaction.
The exhibition will feature new works that capture traces of time and movement accumulated through processes of immersion and generation, where material and gesture intersect.

Bringing together more than 30 key works from the 1970s to the present, the exhibition traces the continuity and transformation of Leeโs five-decade practice, from early performance and installation-related archival materials to recent paintings and sculptures.
Working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and performance, Lee Kang So (b. 1943) has explored the experimental spirit and expanded possibilities of Korean contemporary art. His practice focuses on the conditions and processes through which art comes into being, leaving traces of movement and a sense of becoming across the surface.
The ducks, deer, boats, and wind that appear in Leeโs paintings are not direct representations of specific subjects, but evoke movement, traces, and a sense of becoming. Through repeated brushstrokes and drifting lines, Lee captures the flow of time and life across the surface.
Lee Kang So has maintained a deep connection with New York, serving as a visiting professor at the State University of New York at Albany in the mid-1980s and becoming the first Korean artist to participate in MoMA PS1โs International Studio Program in 1991. This exhibition is especially meaningful as his first solo presentation in New York in nearly 40 years, following his 1986 solo exhibition at the former Korean Cultural Center New York.

The exhibition of new paintings byย acclaimedย Americanย artist Eddie Martinez continues at LEEAHN Daegu until April 30.
Eddie Martinez is known for moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, painting and drawing, to develop his own distinctive visual language. Working with oil, enamel, spray paint, and collage, he builds large-scale canvases through accumulative mark-making, aggressive revisions, and abrupt shifts in pace.
Martinez has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Space K, Seoul; the Yuz Museum, Shanghai; and the Parrish Art Museum, New York, among others. In 2024, he was the selected artist for the San Marino Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale.
His ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ต๐ฆ๐๐ถ๐ต paintings explore erasure, reduction, and the visibility of process. Broad applications of white paint partially obscure earlier layers while allowing fragments of color, line, and texture to re-emerge. Covering something paradoxically defines it, turning erasure into a constructive part of his method.
These canvases function as palimpsests, where what is concealed and revealed creates new structures, rhythms, and clarity, showing how limitation can spark reinvention.

โIn her paintings, we encounter traces of air and events that have passed through the artistโs body.โ
Choon Mi Kim (b.1983) received her BFA in Painting from Hongik University and her MFAs from Korea National University of Arts and Goldsmiths, University of London. She is currently based in London.
Rather than depicting images, Kimโs paintings record sensations and events that pass through the body. The lines and marks on the canvas appear less as intentional forms than as traces left by the encounter between body and material. Her paintings become sites where these fleeting movements and sensations remain.
The exhibition title, Isobars in Down, evokes both the invisible flow of air and the structures that hold it. While working in her cold winter studio, often wearing a thick padded jacket, the artist experiences moments in which her body seems to merge with the movement of air. This exhibition explores the subtle sensations and shifting images that emerge between body and environment.

Leeahn Gallery artist Shin Kyung-Chul is participating in From Korea to Hong Kong: Expanding Horizons, which will be held at the exhibition hall of the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong from March 25 to May 30.
This special exhibition introduces 11 Korean artists in collaboration with 11 Korean galleries participating in Art Basel Hong Kong 2026.
Shin Kyung-Chul (b.1978) is an artist known for his abstract expressionist paintings. Reversing the conventional order of painting, he first creates forms with a paint-laden brush and then traces over them in pencil. His works condense images drawn from memory into a single pictorial plane, flattening or distorting sensations of landscape, space, and time. Positioned between figuration and abstraction, his paintings invite viewers to recall their own inner landscapes.
