Back by popular request, I’m offering two chances to catch my one day live sound crash course, June 7 and 8th.
Stop being mystified by all the knobs, frustrated when things go wrong, buying random junk that’s supposed to solve all your problems and start making confident decisions to achieve the sound that’s in your head.
Ten years ago, when I was leaving my first career in the church - which I was pretty successful at - a well meaning mentor said to me “anybody can make records, don’t waste your gift”.
Ever have somebody say something like that to you, that you have to choose to file under “motivation?”
A decade later, I’m neither rich nor famous but I get to spend (almost) every day of my life doing stuff that I love that helps people. For the last two days I’ve helped rooms full of already talented guitar players make discoveries that’ll make their playing more fun and bring them more joy for the rest of their lives.
Several times people said to me things like “I’ve watched five different two hour YouTube videos on this and I was still confused. I can’t believe it’s that easy.”
You can’t imagine how good that makes me feel. Knowing that you really helped somebody, especially knowing that you really helped somebody who was working hard but stuck and frustrated, and you got to help them get un-stuck, it’s the best!
All I’m saying is, if somebody’s told you you’re doing it wrong because you’re following your dream, forgive them - pretending they were trying to help whether they were or not - file it under motivation, and give it a decade of relentless hard work before you even think about measuring your progress. And figure out how to make your thing be about helping people.
And if I can help you with anything you’re working on, I’d love to! It’s my favorite thing.
On that note, the next class I’ll be hosting is - everyone’s been asking for it -
The Live Sound Crash Course!
Two opportunities to take the class -
June 7th and 8th
No more ouchy mixes!
I’m 45 minutes into this lead guitar for rhythm guitar players class and I’m thinking of all the killer guitar players I know who would technically be overqualified for this class, but would get so much out of it.
@lebster is such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to making tasteful decisions in your music. It’s a good thing there’s still a couple spots left open in tomorrow’s class.
If you’re available, you should really think about signing up while the link is still available
If you feel stuck in your guitar playing, this might be the thing for you. “Lead Guitar for Rhythm Guitar Players” a one day class with two options to attend- this coming Sunday and Monday (19th and 20th) message me if you have any questions!
I’m getting super excited prepping for my upcoming class this Sunday and Monday (19/20) “lead guitar for rhythm guitar players”.
-It’s a one day class offered two different days to try to make it easier for my gigging and working friends to be able to attend -
I’m excited to see so many sign ups, there is still a little bit of space in each class, but not much!
Recording studios are containers of joy, temples for a spiritual practice where we process our lives into, hopefully, things that in some way transcend us.
Just about everything in our lives is designed to rob our joy, crush our idealism, and repress our eagerness to dream, but in these spaces we carve out an opportunity to get in touch with something that is often buried pretty deep inside of us, the little flame of eagerness and idealism and dream that we have kept safe from the world.
This is the vintage Neve mixing console that is now going to be the centerpiece of Juniper Recording.
I hope that it is a worthy vessel for the hope, heartbreak, prayers, confessions, and all other expressions of humanity that will flow through it.
Let’s go make the world a little bit better.
99% of the time, the song is the vocal. If you take away the guitar from a song, it’s still a song. If you take the vocal away, it’s just chords. Let’s perform like we understand this. #shyronnie
Last night the “AND FRIENDS” part of “Rosaline and friends” headlined at @sugarshack_downtown - I told Matt and Marcia that yeah their band is better than ours but nobody else can match this level of effort we put in (essentially zero) with the level of fun (stratospheric)
Prepping for this new guitar class I’m teaching (cough:link in bio) immediately devolved into a “10 things I hate about” list. The guitar is a truly awful instrument, but we’ll get through this together.
