Making a super ultralight Windshell is daunting. The 10d fabric is so slippery and fluid that it can be a real struggle to sew. I bought this orange 0.66oz Membrane 10 fabric in 2017! Ive been scared to sew it for years! With inspiration and excitement from pattern testers of the updated UL Windshell pattern (releases soon) I finally dove in! Jacket came out great and weighs a scant 2.75oz (78g)!
I’ll share my tips and hacks at sewing this fabric in an article soon but here’s some quick hits.
1. Select the right needle and thread. You want small ball point needle to limit seam elongation. I used an 80/12 needle with Mara 100 (tex35) thread for all construction seams and topstitching.
2. Lower your presser foot pressure. Lower it ALOT!
3. Use a straight stitch needle plate and avoid zigzag stitching. Your machine is hungry for this fabric. The smaller the needle opening in the needle plate, the better of you are.
4. Stitch confidently! Use a short stitch length. 2.5mm was a good balance of speed and strength. Topstitch with 3-3.5mm. Serger or overcast raw seams after to wrangle fray.

3d print your own Pocket Ski Ice Scraper!
A simple, pocket sized ski scraper for clearing snow and ice buildup from skis in the field. Designed for XC skis, including scaled XC bases where packed snow can quickly become a problem. I use liquid wax but our PNW wet snow can still clump up. This is also great for cleaning off snow before heading home.

This post is somewhere between a travel review, a sewing pattern review, and a thirst trap 😂
Can I start by saying I’m absolutely obsessed with my @learnmyog #SkylineSunHoodie and it is my favourite thing in the world. My OG plan was to make a bunch of tops for my Greenland hiking trip but my stupid coverstitch is broken so there was a lot of faff around that and the plan slowed to a halt.
I ordered @polartecfabric Power Dry Lightweight from @discoveryfabrics in Rust colourway for this. It’s a great fabric and I love love the colour, it’s a bit of me.
So I made the hoodie in the smallest size. Love that LearnMYOG has completed garment sizes, and it was helpful that they’ve got a section about sizing for people with tiddies. The fit on me is perfect. Tight in the right places. Loose in the right places. It’s a bummer my coverstitch wasn’t working cause I didn’t want to zigzag so I used some straight stitches on stretchy fabrics like a loser. Still where it’s loose enough it doesn’t require stretch in those places so it’ll be a-ok. I would 100% make this pattern again in every possible colour.
I took my saucy friend and pole buddy @elkiepole777 to Mauritius with me and dragged her up Le Morne. Not much to say about it other than the scramble at the top was delightful and the views were great.
Worn here with my @common_stitch #pipitloungewearset shorts. I wear them 👏🏻 all 👏🏻 the 👏🏻 time 👏🏻. Nonstop. I need more pairs, desperately.
