Introducing graduate Leah Mann @leahmannstudio
Five positions — a phrase
a phrase: two or more movements linked together. Many of these make a dance. When you phrase a sentence, you express a thought in words.
My graduation work comprises a collection of layered, wearable pieces that form a phrase — a sequence of gestures studied, translated, and worn in an endless loop. The work is informed by the exploration of language and movement, where thought is located much like choreography and exists as an embodied structuring of speech. I am curious to navigate a broader identification of performed movement, recognizing traces of the everyday within the language of athletic or dance forms. Five positions — a phrase considers how we move, and how that movement might be held, released, and practised through material.
