Want more butterflies and birds in your backyard? Native trees and shrubs are one of the best ways to make it happen. Many butterflies rely on specific native plants as host species for their caterpillars, and those caterpillars are a key food source for birds, especially when raising their young. Planting native species helps support the whole food web right in your own yard. Privacy can be created without a high price tag. A well-planned hedge is one of the most effective ways to build natural screening in your yard while also supporting greenery, wildlife, and long-term landscape value. Some key tips to keep in mind when planning a privacy hedge: • Choose native or well-adapted species that match your site conditions • Plan for mature size so spacing is appropriate from the start • Plant in staggered rows for quicker, fuller coverage • Think in layers to improve density and resilience over time Learn more about these tips for creating the perfect backyard privacy hedge: /node/2544
