Drafting up Aunty Lorna, Mum's older sister and working out composition. 🥰💔 Dharug life in the 'burbs. The hidden silent ones.
Two stints in the Industrial Girls School ...the horror stories I have from the survivors of that horrific place😔😬😓
Died at 51 yrs of age. Couldn't have children, like so many who came out of thx Industrial school. I shudder to think! 😔
I had very fond memories of Aunty 'Lornie'. Secret little conversations when she was lying in bed. Her asking me to pass her her 'medicine'. A melancholic sad but wild and incorrigible girl according to the family. I often wonder of the trauma endured. I know Mum's life was traumatic but the older siblings...what did they experience, witness, know??🤔🙏🏽😔💜
Stepping into 2026 with a fond look back at a powerful performance at Another World Festival 🎇Congratulations to Leanne Tobin and the cast of ‘Bulunggayi’ for an incredible progress showing!
At a compelling on-script reading, these characters were brought to life – chronicling the story of Leanne’s ancestor, Bulunggayi (Maria Locke), a formidable Dharug advocate who fought for justice and equality in Western Sydney. Her spirit was felt through generations, evident in the women’s strength and their stories told in the play.

Introducing Leanne Tobin, a passionate multi-disciplinary artist and educator, residing on the land of her Dharug ancestors, the traditional custodians of the Greater Sydney region. She is the creator and writer of the first major Dharug text-based performance work of scale, 'Bulunggayi'.
Leanne often works collaboratively, using her art practice to tell local histories and stories. Through her art, she seeks to evoke in others an environmental conscience and respect towards Ngurra (Country) and acknowledgement of those who cared for Her.
Leanne’s work seeks to encourage an open and honest dialogue about the past, while also conveying the intrinsic spiritual connection Aboriginal people have with the land; a connection often hidden beneath the concrete and tar of the city and suburbs.
