Due to scheduling and other priorities by the City, there will no longer be a Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration by the ocean. We wish the well. And while that may bring a moment of pause, for me it also brings is deep gratitude, reflection, and pride.
For the past five years, it has been our absolute honor to bring this celebration to freedom —centering Black joy, Black culture, and Black excellence right here in the city we love.
We started with about 3,000 people—coming together as the first major community event after the COVID lockdown—and we grew into something truly extraordinary. Last year, more than 20,000 beautiful people showed up, showed out, and celebrated with us alongside the incomparable Lalah Hathaway. That is nothing short of a blessing.
This event has always been about more than a day in the park. It has been about creating space—space for Black vendors, Black entertainers, Black nonprofits, and organizations doing the work to uplift and support our community. Space where dignity, unity, culture, and joy could be felt in the air and seen on every smiling face.
To our sponsors over the years—thank you for believing in the vision and investing in Black excellence.
To our volunteers—thank you for giving your time, your talent, and your hearts. You showed up year after year because you believed in what this celebration represented, and because you knew the joy mattered. Especially our Core Team. You gave countless hours because you love your people and your city, and you did it for free. I love yall forever.
And most of all, I thank God—for the vision, for the people placed in my path, and for the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful.
Juneteenth is a celebration of Black freedom, and that freedom is central to the American story. There are many Juneteenth celebrations happening throughout the Southland, and I hope you’ll continue to show up, support, and celebrate at one of them.
From the bottom of my heart—thank you. Thank you for the love, the trust, and the memories.
And as for what’s next for Carl Kemp Productions—well, we’ll see what God says about it.
Much love, God bless, and see you soon.
“Bass players don’t dance… or maybe they do 👀💃🏽”
Shoutout to @romelveal for keeping the energy UP🎸
I’ll be honest…. sometimes I get awkward on stage. Between playing, performing, and trying to connect with the crowd, it’s a lot! But having bandmates who bring the vibe makes it so much easier.
The 2-step has been mastered 😂
I study groups like @earthwindandfire and @themorrisday because I don’t just want to put on a show — I want to give people an experience.
