IMPORTANT ELECTION UPDATE 📢 The @lacountyrrcc will begin distributing 📬 vote by mail ballots to registered voters in Long Beach starting, Thursday, April 30, for the upcoming Primary Nominating Election happening, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Long Beach voters have 24-hour access to drop boxes at more than 400 participating locations across Los Angeles County, including 20 drop box locations throughout Long Beach.

Here’s your earlier-than-usual reminder that all LBPL locations are cooling centers! During our open hours, swing by your nearest neighborhood library to take advantage of our air conditioning, books, media, computers, wifi, bathrooms, and fresh water.
Long Beach City is making improvements to the outdoor terrace at the Billie Jean King Main Library to enhance its usability and create a safer, more welcoming space for the whole community that reflects the terrace’s original intended purpose of being a vibrant hub for programming and activities. Construction will begin Monday, March 16. The library will remain open during this period.
The refreshed terrace will provide a more functional, secure, and accessible setting for community programming such as:
• Book sales
• Crafts
• Games
• Lunch programs
• Family-friendly events

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting Harold Ray Brown, original drummer of the band WAR, at the Burnett Neighborhood Library. Burnett was Mr. Brown’s childhood library and we were honored to have him back in this space for a full-circle moment with the community.

This week, I visited the African American Resource Center at Burnett Library. This space has been a cornerstone of culture and history in our City for over 20 years. With more than 1,000 books, it’s a powerful reminder of why our public libraries are so important.

📚Join our @lbcitylibrary for their return of “For the Culture,” a Black History Month celebration honoring Black history, culture and creativity through a month-long series of free, community-centered events.
The celebration will begin with a kickoff event presented in partnership with Forgotten Images and the @aaccoflb . The free community event will take place from 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach (📍 4321 Atlantic Ave.)

This intimate closing event will transform the library into a cultural lounge 🎙️ featuring live jazz and poetry for an evening of music, spoken word and reflection.
